Siriusly, XM is better
#1

Has anyone else noticed that XM has better signal than Sirius? My Denali had XM radio and it never lost signal other then when sitting in the garage. My new Ram has Sirius radio and every time I go under an overpass or on a back road with trees it loses signal.

I did some research and found it has to do with how the satellites orbit the earth. XM satellites (2) stay over the equator while the Sirius radio satellites (3) do a figure 8 over north and south America, the bottom of the 8 (south America) is much larger than the top so there is less time directly over the US.

Luckily my Sirius is free for a year but once its up I won't be continuing the service. I might even go as far as swapping the head unit for one that supports XM.

well, now that they are the same company, i'm not sure which satellites they are using, but i do have more issues with signal lately

the big difference that bugs me with the "new xm" is that now there are annoying djs giving their two cents worth, as well plugs for other channels on xm

the whole reason i got xm was to have pure music and no commentary, dj, commercial, or anything

if this is the direction they are going, then i will also dump it - since i listen only to the classic rock stations, i will just go out and buy the music and put it on the ipod

When I still had XM (after the merger) signal was never an issue, but just as you said, I didn't get it to listen to DJ's or plugs.

Since the Ram has MyGig is has a hard drive and Aux input so other sources aren't a problem but I hate having to load music onto the drive or onto my Zune so I can listen in the truck. Also XM\Sirius have a nice variety incase I want to listen to something other than the norm.

The more I search many Sirius users have the same problem that I do. I don't see how people can live with it, especially since you have to pay for the service.

I've had XM in my daily driver since about '01-'02. I no longer have a 45 minute commute each way (only about 25min in, 30min home) and I am also annoyed by the increase in DJ activity. One of the main reasons that I have kept XM is for Opie and Anthony. Well, now when I drive to work, they usually go on break and it lasts for over 10 minutes! So I only get about 10-15 minutes of their live programming. Then I get Ron and Fez on the way home. I enjoy Ron and Fez, but I prefer O&A. The last thing I want to hear is a DJ when I try to find a station with a song I like....

To top it all off, you can no longer listen for "free" over the internet with your account. I think they now charge a montly access fee ($2.99 or $3.99/month) to listen on-line.

My contract is up either later this year or early next year. I am not sure if I will renew. I'm leaning towards not renewing.

Never had Sirius. Don't plan on getting Sirius. When the wifey gets a new car, I am sure she'll get a year free of one or the other. Up to her if she keeps it. I'm going to focus more on my iPod.

And to the original question, I lose XM in a couple of places where there is heavy tree growth and hills. No biggie to me.

i lose it at the front driveway to our neighborhood, and at the overpass to both freeways near me - very odd that a satellite signal is that poor that it wouldn't bounce around enough

the dj thing will have me writing a letter soon though, and likely canceling service, since i am sure they are headed in the direction of commercials, and trying to slip things in via the djs first to soften the blow - i already hear them promoting events and such through them

After Clear Channel bought into XM I was ready to cancel since the CC stations have commercials. Luckily XM added new stations at the same time which had the same content but no commercials.

During the merger XM lost Squizz in favor of Octane which was upsetting.

Does anyone have HD Radio? How is it?

I've also heard advertisements on XM -- what's the point of paying money if you have to be subjected to ads? They also got rid of my wife's favorite channel (some Latin Pop channel...)

I called to cancel last week, but they agreed to half my subscription fee for the next year. One more year, and I'll be out.
