Silver 968 Black Cups
#1

Silver was not my favourite colour for a sports car, but this 968 was too good to let pure aesthetics get in the way, so I made it mine about 12 months ago. Polar silver has grown on me but I still wanted to break up the silver and add some aggression. So I decided to refinish my recently acquired 993 Cup wheels in black gloss and mount them with Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs. I think the result is great. (sorry not a great photo though). I thought the silver caps might work with the silver car but now I don't like them and I'm searching for some black with coloured crest. Need some black wheel nuts too.
I only had a short drive in the car since getting the wheels/tyres so I can't say much except the they're a lot sharper that the 16" C2 5 Spoke with Toyo TR1s that I previoulsy had on the car. Not a surprise!

Cheers

Ian

Looks good. Why dont you just have the caps you have re finished?

My Coupe is midnight blue metallic pearl. I had the wheels refinished in anthracite (volvo 850R wheel color-pant code VOL 932). Had the caps refinished in the same color.

I did think of that, and may do so in the short term, but I do like those coloured crests.

I'm sure this will not be everyone's taste, but I think the side moldings look great on the coupe. For the light cars especially since it gives the body some greater detail.

It's pretty easy to mask off and paint the centre caps black to match. Also, the original 944/968 lug nuts came anodized black and they only cost a few bucks a piece from a recycler. I wouldn't paint the lug nuts as it will just come off everytime you remove the wheels - the anodized is really tough especially with the proper soft socket for the nuts.

There are obviously no original thoughts anymore. Love the red calipers too. Another future project.
