Shift indicator
#1

Well, I've had this little project in mind ever since I went to pass someone one time, didn't pay close enough attention to the tachometer, and ran up against the redline! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

The project is to simply add a tone that goes off at a predefined RPM, allowing the driver to know when they're approaching the redline, or any other RPM. I've been going over the design for little while, and I think I have a nice system worked out, which will include a user adjustable RPM trigger.

All the parts are on their way, so hopefully I should be able to give an update on the progress this weekend.

My 1988 Rx-7 Convertible had an "idiot light" at the shift points and an audible alarm at redline.

Just for reference...

autometer has been doing that for years - i've suggested such a thing to a lot of guys who can't hear how the engine sounds close to redline - glad to hear somebody is working it out

one of the pistons shooting right through the car's hood gives you a pretty good audible warning.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

great idea though.. in typical circumstances the sound of the engine , and /or that "feel" you acquire from experience is enough, but in the heat of competition on the track I'd be glad to have a very audible " YOU BETTER SHIFT, DUDE !! " signal of sorts ..
