98 shift pattrn insert
#1

Anyone know where to buy them? i'm specifically looking for brushed aluminum shift pattern insert. I've seen them for 944's and 944 turbos. I'll settle for a stainless steel insert if i cant find the brushed aluminum (dull) type.

That's what's in my car. Let me see if I can find out where I got it - it's a few years ago.

Got one at the Hershey swap meet last year. I think you can find them on eBay.

Not advisable for cabs

That certainly looks like it. As for the "not advisable in cabs"...yes, it can get warm if the sun hits it when you park for a while with the top down - but it's pretty easy to shift without touching the insert until it cools down. IMHO, the improved look outweighs the slight "sun" inconvenience.

Nothing cooler than a 6 speed shift pattern scar in the palm of your hand.

Are you asking what Suede is, where to get a suede shift boot, or expressing dislike for suede?

Edit: Ralph, my apologies if i came off as being harsh. That is not my intent. I'm just not understanding what your asking me.

Hopefully this will answer your question. Suede is soft and offers better grip. A lot of guys who race their cars have suede trimmed steering wheels. Based on my experiance, it will wear quicker then leather. Synthetic suede (alacantra) lasts longer.

If you are going to Hershey this year, you can check it out in my car. Should be installed by then. Outside of that, i can always take some pictures to send your way once installed.

Dino,
That's nice. Where did you get the boot? Did it come with the plastic handle already inserted?

Pat,

i bought the boot on ebay. I can get you the sellers information when i get home tonight if you are interested in getting one. When i bought mine he had 3 avail. He should still have 2.

The plastic handle was not inserted. I had to remove my leather boot & handle and place my handle into the new suede boot. It was a pain in the butt getting it in there...but i eventually put it all together. I'll post a picture of it installed later tonight.

P.S. the Suede shift boot cost less then the SS shift knob insert.
