Steering Wheel "Squeak"
#1

I've lately noticed that when I move the steering wheel from centered to just barely left of center, there's a tiny "squeak" that comes out of the steering column. I believe it's just plastic on plastic, right where the part of the wheel that turns meets up with the part of the column that is fixed.

It's down in the middle somewhere, not near the surface, so what can I put in there to lubricate those plastic trim parts? I don't want to go spraying petroleum distillates around in there, would Pledge work out? It's great for sliding glass doors, e.g. slippery with no residue to collect dust and dirt - I just don't know how plastic friendly it is.

Looking for someone to reply to the original post, since I also have a small steering wheel squeak to deal with...

I wonder if it has something to do with the metal parts that make up the horn contact points...

There is a clock spring in the 968 so there aren't any horn contact points like a traditional car (928). Must be something close buy that's plastic maybe out of skew and hitting the vanity cover behind the steering wheel base maybe?

I soaked a folded paper towel with some Pledge and worked it down into the seam between the rotating and fixed parts of the steering wheel. While it seemed to help for a day or two, the squeak is back. I notice that if I reach along the top of the steering column and press down even lightly at the forward edge of the bellows (not on the bellows itself) the squeak disappears. I'll try a few more non-invasive methods before getting in there.
