A/C Delete Option?
#1

Was it possible to order a 968 in the U.S without A/C? Anyone know where to get it documented either way?

It was possible. I've never seen one though.

I was protested at an SCCA event and need to find the documentation to prove you could order one without A/C.

I have no tech, but I believe the AC components can not be removed in PCA stock club racing because it was not a US option. You could definitely get a ClubSport w/o AC but not over here.

399 was a US option though, so at least you could get the condenser out of there - pretty sure you could also still delete the routing of the belt over the unit

factory ac delete parts? are those from a club sport or a US model? if you got them through a US distributor, they may be able to help you with the option code - if they used the european catalog though, you would be out of luck there

I think in the US pet program they list both A/C and no A/C brackets and clubsport parts are listed with a CS

hmmm - i didn't think the US version listed club sport stuff at all - i thought that was only the Euro version - most dealerships have both though

i think you are going to have to either bump class, or reinstall the compressor and bracket - you should be able to leave the condenser and hoses out though - however, having fought and lost this same battle before, if your specific car did not come that way, they can still nail you

what Travis, needs is a Maroney sticker showing that the complete AC system was removed at the time of production of any 968 in 1994, his year, this has to be for a US spec car.

any one have a Dealership build sheet, or oder form that shows what was able to be a requested

parts for delete. if we have any one who has a copy of this it would be great.

thanks Rob F.

All I need is a VIN for a US car that came without A/C I can get the build sheet if I have the VIN#

i do not believe any US 968s came without AC completely - the only option code i can find is 399, which is for the condenser delete only - if AC was deleted, it would have been by the dealership or another third party, not part of the official program, and therefore not applicable for SCCA ruling

if you could give me the factory AC delete part numbers, i might be able to help further, but without those, i think it is going to be impossible

i think you are out of luck

the only exception i can think of is somebody who grey marketed a Club Sport without AC and got it approved for your class - the snag i see there is that a Club Sport may not be in the same class to begin with

my suggestion is to suck it up - this happens to all of us at one time or another - at some point we all fail to read the rules carefully enough, and once we get competitive, people start scrutinizing our cars (i got nailed for a different size rear brake cylinder once) -

something to think about: if the 1hp and 20lbs from the AC makes that much difference in your times, you probably need to bump up in class

nearly all options can be ordered in the special build program - they are not necessarily on the "standard option" list - this is the only "loophole" i think that will allow you to at least delete the condenser

the rule of thumb when it comes to "cheating" (and let's be honest, that's what this is) is that you can usually get away with anything you could have ordered from the factory, on a US car, but not things that the dealer would do afterward

send me the part numbers for the factory delete components - i'll see what i can dig up

Wonder if there are any balsa wood air compressors floating around. I'd start by asking NASCAR. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
