A/C Delete
#1

I'm removing the A/C from my car this Spring.

Is there anything other than the Lindsey delete bracket to use? It seems they have a 'lock' on this part! $150 seems a little out of line for a bracket, and I was wondering if anybody else mfg'd this piece.

By the way, I'll sell the condensor and compressor to anybody for $250.

There was someone on Rennlist that made some for a group buy. I wonder if enough 968'ers would be interested to make another group buy...

How old is the compressor? Would you consider selling it separately from the condenser? The grooved wheel on my compressor pulley (the thing that's driven by the belt; not sure of the technical term for it) has broken loose from my pulley, so there's a good chance I'll need a new compressor, or at least a new clutch. I'll know by later this week what I'll need. If you haven't removed your compressor yet, when are you planning to? Thanks.

Andy,

If I do sell it separately, I'd have to ask $150 for it. We will be doing this work starting over the next 2 weeks.

My mechanic has 3 cars running the club race at Sebring, and he's driving too. So, they won't be back until after that event.

Jason,

I'll know this Friday what's wrong with mine. If it's just the clutch, I may go ahead and order a new one and repair mine. But if it's the compressor, I'd be very interested in purchasing yours. Do you know how old yours is? Was it working well last summer? Thanks

Andy,

Mine is a '95...the last year of the 968.

Yes, it was working very well last time I used it.

Jason,

Well, I was not able to get my car to the shop today to determine what's wrong with my compressor. I have to say that I'm a bit hesitant to buy a 10 year-old compressor. Has yours ever been rebuilt? From your answer, it sounds like it's original. I'll have to think about it, vs. having mine rebuilt for $300. Thanks.

Andy,

Mine have not been rebuilt.

If I were in your shoes I also just might have my own rebuilt for $300, as well.

Car is in the shop getting its AC compressor diagnosed. The mechanic thought it will just need a new clutch assembly, in which case I'll go ahead and do that, as the compressor itself was rebuilt in 8/02. Thanks.
