I'm too lazy to learn how to use it, or too lazy to learn the right search terms.

Search is your friend

Never had a problem with the search function. Banditsc's comments are right on - considering the site is free (or even if it carried a nominal fee), it's a great resource that works very well.

It's even better than free, it can save anyone who can read (and use the search function) a lot of money. What labor will a mechanic do for let's say, 100 bucks? Change the oil?

You can almost reverse-engineer the 968 with all the information here.

Speaking for myself, but I honestly could not afford to own this car without fora just like this one.

++ 1 re Philippe's comments ; even if the search function does not always retrieve everything you might specifically hope it would on any given topic, for those of us that are mechanically-challenged ( and for me that would be an understatement ) and rely on a mechanic to diagnose the problem at a cost of $ 100 + / hr, this site and the search function is priceless. If for no other reason , that alone should motivate everyone using the forum to make an annual donation. The return on investment will be many X-fold.

In a way, it's similar to buying a radar detector ; all it has to do is save you from one single ticket and it has paid for itself. So if I can use the search and point my mechanic to first check the top one or two most likely causes of a problem, I'm way ahead of the game .

I was searching this morning and used a term "9", that was less than 3 characters (used it with other words), had to re-search. I don't know why it does that. But I see that on other forum software also. Doesn't need to be changed, just a note.

it does have a 3 character minimum. that is to prevent useless results and burying the search engine. we tried fewer and it caused problems. remember that every time you hit "view new posts" or really pretty much anything like that, where you tell the site to go get something, it uses the search engine. we only have so much bandwidth. with over 140,000 posts, the search engine gets buried with anything less than 3 characters.
