Sea to Sky
#1

Calling all Vancouver / Seattle 968s (and friends)!

Anyone interested in a sea to sky excursion over a weekend? I'm thinking maybe first or second weekend of august, or september. Anything from a cruise up to Squamish for lunch, to doing the entire Pemberton loop Something to get out of the city and do some spirited driving.

Meet at Stanley Park in the morning, then go from there.

Well as it looks like no one else is interested, I say we do this the first weekend of August heh, so in one week. Meet at Stanley Park early on saturday, and head up for a cruise

I am all clear for next Saturday. Its a shame we have not had more interest here or on 968.net. Perhaps we should post on rennlist as well and invite the 944s? There are at least a half dozen 968s in the Greater Vancouver Area.

Anyway lets set a time to meet at Stanley park..say 10am Saturday? I can only go as far as Squamish and back..if others are interested in going farther that's fine by me. I have to be back by 1-2pm.

p.s. my friend may come and ride behind us (or shotgun) w/ his windshield tri-pod camera to film some serene driving!

yeah you guys should invite the 944 crowd. That's how we do it a lot here in the bay area, there are plenty of funruns with the 944 gang.

I definitely am going to get up to Vancouver at some point. Your dates are sooo tempting as it's near my birthday. . . just can't make it work right now.

Have fun dudes

Yeah, 10am is great! And woot to the camera

As for rennlist, I don't have an account there, but if you wanna post and get more people involved, go for it, the more the merrier!

Ether_joe, yeah, come up here! Be sure to bring some people with you too Maybe we can convince Flash to make a trip up here, I'm sure he'd show us a thing or two about spirited driving

Hey guys, just caught this thread. There are a LOT of 944/968 types that belong to PCA-CAR - check out the website: - just click on the Calendar on the right margin for events:

http://www.pca-cwr.org/index.php?module=...r&calendar[view]=day&month=08&year=2006&day=12

In addition to the Saturday BBC (see the site), there is a front engine fest one of the guys is organizing again for Hell's Gate - we had a pretty decent turnout for that last year with people from Seattle, Calgary and even one from ALASKA(!)

Anyway, we're around... I know there are at least six 968's in the area. We're also pretty well stocked for spare parts - anybody need a good used OEM 968 SS exhaust??

Here's a few photos from past events..... there's a 968 coupe with under 16,500 klms! yes only 16.5K (that's under 10,200 miles!!!!) and the current owner found it online in the local Auto Trader at a great price!

Very cool. Perhaps we should join the BBC run? Looks like fun. . Where can we get more info on the front engine fest? Where is Hell's Gate?

"968 Cab", are you going to both of these?

Looks like Hell's Gate is about an hour north of hope, along the #1. Hmm, the front engine fest doesn't look like it's listed on their site.

I wouldn't mind doing a run up there though, it's great open highways, and the newly repaved #7 between agassiz and hope is the PERFECT highspeed road: Wide, smooth, and empty Unfortunatly when I was driving it this past weekend, my lock bolts were in the wrong location cause a lot of excess vibration, doh. Otherwise I probably would have opend it up all the way hehe.

BTW cab, are you in the vancouver region (can't tell from your profile ? I don't think I've seen a dark 968 cab yet. These are the ones I've seen so far:

968 coupe, white (mine)

968 coupe, black (mrayner)

968 coupe, black (At weissach!)

968 coupe, red

968 coupe, cobalt (saw this one for sale in White Rock only once)

968 cab, aqua blueish

968 cab, red

Hi Guys, yes I am in West Vancouver and I do go on the BBC runs on Sat early - we leave West Van at 6am to avoid the congested roads (it will be brutal this weekend by 10am for sure, especially with all the hwy construction). We usually get anywhere from 25-50 Porsches and recently a new FordGT has been tagging along. At that time of the morning it is a "spirited" drive.

The Hells Gate tour we did last time was very good. In fact, we did go on Hwy 7 along Agassiz and the roads were absolutely clear, dry, with nobody else around!

One of our PCA guys organizes that for late September. Come out for the BBC next Sat Aug 12 - there should be a good turnout. We meet just before 6am at the local shopping centre off Exit #4 right next to the highway - details are on the PCA website.

A few shots from recent BBC drives:

Lol, I'm sold! Where do I sign up?

But it looks like the BBC is scheduled for next weekend, correct? I'd still like to get out and cruise around this saturday. However if you say that 10am will be pretty bad for traffic, maybe we should move it up a couple of hours? 8am?

For BBC, just show up on Sat Aug 12 before 6am and you sign up there. Very informal, no cost, etc. As for this Sat - based on past experience, and since I live close to Horseshoe Bay, and drive the Sea to Sky a lot, you better come before 8am. This is a 3 day weekend, and the lineups for the Ferry will stretch way back onto the highway. The major road construction beyond Lions Bay makes it pretty dicey for moving through traffic and I'm sure we will see every motorhome within 200 klms on that road on Saturday AM.

It's going to be SLOW going this weekend. But here's the hint - drive up Cypress Bowl all the way up to the ski hill parking lot. It will be deserted save for the local police speed traps after 9am.

Cypress bowl you say. You mean instead of going on the sea to sky? or instead of meeting up at Stanley park?

Yep- you can meet in Stanley Park then head over to West Van and up Cypress Bowl, etc. Definitely more interesting than following some rental camper at 50kph along the StS on Sat. How many people do you have on your drive? I can probably round up a few more interested souls... all 944 / 951 / 968 types.

Right now just 2, mrayner and myself.

Well, it really doesn't have to be to the sea to sky. We could also go the other way, taking the #7 all the way to Hope for a long cruise through the country. Might not be as twitsy as the sea-to-sky, but it's nice too. Probably more speed traps though.

Ahh, I see now. If you go Hwy 7, take the backroad route around Stave Lake Dam and loop around the top of Harrison Lake. That's a great drive. But it's going to be crowded no matter where you are this weekend I think.

Anyway, if you want to head west and up Cypress, let me know. Send me a PM and I'll make sure you get onto the Hells Gate tour. That was great.

You may be right about there being lots of traffic this weekend, though it shouldn't be TOO bad in the morning. Stll, the cypress run is pretty bad. And if there'll be no one up top, we can always do some autocross-ish like driving in those parking lots

Ok, lets meet at Stanley park at 8am and do a cypress run. Less traffic, more fun!
