rxter's Big Adventure - Part 4
#1

Well clearly readership is down. I feel like the guys on Lost - time to wrap this up.

We left you with rxter patting himself on the back for making such a great deal on his new/old car. Not so fast......

The guy I was dealing with got spooked, took other offers, and raised the price. I worked it through and Mike and I headed to Cinci to pick it up. Very fun trip through rain and wind and snow and road construction projects. Most fun I've had in years - 4 days on the road with my son in a new to us 968. I'll post some pics of the twins when they are cleaned up and presentable.

Photo Log

Starting off in Cincinnati

Protecting the Paint

The Arch

Approaching Denver

Heading into the Mountains

Choppers hovering 30 feet above I-70 East

Wind on CoRd2W. If you look closely you can see Mike’s hat in the wind above and to the right of the car (just left of the telephone pole). It was literally sucked off his head and shot over the car as soon as he opened the door – must have been 60 mph gusts.

The prettiest road I've ever seen (I-25 S in NM)

The red-neck race car in AZ

In Flagstaff amongst the redwoods

In the San Bernadino Mountains

Home at last

Great story and certainly a great adventure to share with your son. Interesting that you wrapped the car in "Saran wrap" and a bra. We had a customer with a new GT3 RS that completely wrapped his car in 3M film. I have been to an ALMS race when it was here in DC. They cancelled it after only one race as the neighbors complained about the noise. Bummer. Enjoy your new additon. Thanks for sharing.

Cosimo - I'll put another post together on the wrap. Bottom line is that the stuff works. The paint looks fantastic after 2700 miles of heavy highway traffic through rain, snow, and a little mud (the CoRd2W was a county road that was being repaved - read dirt - in a couple of places. We did not conquer the Rockies as we had to turn around after coming close to putting it in a ditch, so Mike and I are plotting our return to CO in the summer.

Jeff - thanks for helping out with this purchase. I'm still amazed at how much information you have in that reigstry. The car is nice. Just got the new audio into it this weekend. Working on a solution to the subwoofer. Everything else works as it should and the car is very strong.

Thanks Fox. The original Part 4 was very long. My wife tried to read it and apparently did not see the humor through the words - naturally I thought it was funny as heck. So I edited it way down to the punch line and put the pictures up. Glad you enjoyed it.

Mixing threads Flat Stan accompanied us on this trip. The dinosaurs were at the same Hopi truck stop where I took the picture of my blue-tape special race car.

rxter,

Enjoyed the Big adventure. Keep up the good work. Your quest makes it that much more enjoyable to own one of these cars ! It would be nice to hear other peoples purchase stories as well. Where did you first grow up on boats ? I am a North jersey guy. Grew up boating at the Jersey shore and up at Lake Hopatcong in North Jersey. Can you pm me your advertisement source ?

Rxter,

Thanks for posting. Very enjoyable read.

Too bad the part about the basement of the Alamo didn't make the final edit

Jamie - funny - I do have a shot of some dude on the internet that we met in the basement of the arch. Mike is a fan of his site. No kidding. http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/ About as close to the Alamo as we got.

Rico - Finger Lakes. Learned to ski in the St. Lawrence when I was 7 or 8 - good times. I'll send you the sites.

I can post the unedited version of part 4 if there is enough interest. I hate to see you guys go unfulfilled.

Rxter,

The finger Lakes are great. Never boated there but spent some time in Skaneateles. A fun road trip drive for the 968. The wines are getting better there too. Definitely send me the sites as well as posting the unedited part 4 .
