komv,

driving from NY to solely have these parts bolted on is missing an integral part of bringing a 968 to RS Barn. Any competant mechanics can bolt this stuff in without having you drive (?) hours.

What you would be missing however, is the genuine purpose of taking your 968 to RS Barn.

1) They are 968 specialists, they work on these cars every day and know exactly what to examine.

2) They are dilligent. Pete/Max will evaluate your car properly and will give you a very straight forward list of "Immediate", "Soon" and "Maintenance" items. If you just purchased your 968 the best money you can spend is making sure that the baseline is 100% before you bolt on any goodies.

3) They will fix your car right. They do good work, and stay behind their products.

Give Pete a call and determine what you really need before you make a trip. I wouldn't be surprised if you decide to drop your car off for a week or two. Winter is the perfect time, so that when the weather breaks you will beready.

JMHO,

Jay

I saw a 928 and mid-80s 911 in the lot of a local garage (literally 5 minutes from my house) the other day, so I did a squealing U-turn (in the 968, natch) and pulled in. I thought "man, how convenient this would be for oil and brakes etc." Talked to the guy for a good 10 minutes. Nice guy, seemed competent - 30+ years with a wrench. Vario-what? That was enough. The point of me having my oil changed by a 944/968 guy is to get it up on the lift every so often and poke around. And to have enough experience to tell me "in another 10K miles your going to want to consider xxx" Right on Jay.

Wish I had someone twist my arm when I first got my car to take it to the barn. Instead, I ended up going to a closer Porsche shop and had the worst experience ever. My pockets would be much fatter and I feel that many other problems would have been avoided had I went to Pete from the start. It cost me BIG in the end.

I'M over 300 miles from the Barn and will no longer go elsewhere.

I am very thankful The Barn is close to where I live... I consider myself fortunate.

Big +1 on Post #43. That sums it up. Most of my close friends and family members also know how to get to and from RSB because they often drive me back and forth if I leave the car.

I will admit, that I, am an RSB addict. Counseling and therapy has not helped. Plus, it is so, far away from me. I am already awaiting my next fix. . . the whole clutch, flywheel setup with the stainless steel clutch hose. Ooh, just collecting the money.

Does anyone know if the RS Barn products are available in the UK? If not, is there a good substitute?

Thanks!

There is no UK distributor, but you can order directly from the US.

I live in the Netherlands and have ordered a couple of things (see my signature) and have not had any issues to date. It does take around four weeks from shipment date to arrival date at your door.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have any experience of the Hayward and Scott systems?

Not much to go on there, give them a call and ask them "How much increase on horsepower?". Since no one really claims and significant increase from a cat-back it would be an interesting measure.

Also, ask them how much it weighs, and what the reduction is from the standard exhaust.

Installed my heat shield last night and my stage 1 chip tonight. Heat shield: well, can't objectively say if it's helping any, but it sure is a nice engineered piece that bolts right on and offers some peace of mind, with just having had a HCV blow up last summer.

Regarding the chip: first impression after a short drive is more torque-ey at 0-3500 RPM. FEELS slower after 4500 RPM than before, but that is just cause below 4500 RPM it's much faster than it was, i.e. power delivery is much smoother. Judging by butt-o-meter and seeing how fast I was doing illegal speeds, it surely isn't slower but just the contrast between low and high rpm is much less pronounced. Oh and did I mention already that it revs much more eagerly? Well, it does! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

With just 5 months under my belt as a 968 owner I have availed myself of the voluminous amount of info this site offers. Almost from the start some of the mods that this thread discusses caught my eye. During this time I don't believe there has been anything written about RS Barn and Pete that has even the slightest tinge of negativity to it. Considering the wide spread of 968 owners and of course there varying opinions, this is indeed high praise and illuminating (I like that word! ). Needless to say I am scheduled to drop my car off at Pete's in the next couple of weeks!
