Roof Racks
#1

While preparing to bring my new car home, I've been reading through the owner's manual (thanks Jon!). It states that the installation of commercially available roof racks is not compatible with the 968.

I've been curious about the possibility due to the short roof. I have a Saris rack from my GTI. The Saris website lists mounting hardware available for the 968. I'm just wondering if it's viable and safe to mount.

Thanks,

Kris

I'm sure that statement is in the owner's manual only for liability reasons. Theere were factory roof racks, but they are super-rare (I've only seen pictures of it once.)

Chris Luckett (he's on this forum -- he's user name is his actual name) uses a roof rack on my 968 coupe. I'd shoot him a PM.

guardsredcoupe has one - saw it - touched it - looks good - i can see why they have warnings though - looks pretty easy to damage the roof with a different rack

There is a fellow on rennlist (username patrat) who uses a Saris rack on his 944, he seems to like it. There's some good info in this thread. There is also some good info about 968's and roof racks in this thread.

Here's a couple photos of his setup:
