Actually, I think he ran into a site problem that there seemed to be mid-day, but it's always good to have some light-hearted fun. No harm intended.

Yeah, no doubt I'd have a lot more luck finding a DB9..regretfully, I can't justify the price. I can afford it, but my wife would probably strangle me with the seat belt the moment I brought the car home

I was even debating if I should wait a couple of years when a used but low mileage Audi R8 might drop to a reasonable price range ( I hate that dashboard, but what a car otherwise ! )

Yet when I look at how inexpensive 968s are, how can I possibly think about any other car ?! And since the wife is perfectly ok with me buying a duplicate 968 that makes this prospect even more compelling.

What can I say, I have OCD so I'm hell bent on that elusive midblue M030 I'm not in a hurry though, so time will tell.

Sorry Johann-

Since Dan is adamant on a Midnight Blue car, I'll have to take that lovely yellow CS... I wouldn't want him to settle for something he really doesn't want!

Just like the non-M030 968 coupes, black/red/white are the most popular for the M030. That said, I have three speed yellow M030 968 coupes in the registry, so far...

Why do I have the feeling that the speed yellow coupe might have seen the track once or twice?

I'll add a PS - why do people feel that taking a car on the track is, in some way, bad?

for a car this old, and one i plan to drive, i generally feel quite the opposite, other than paint chips (but unless it is perfect i always repaint the car anyway)

i find that a car that is tracked is actually better maintained than one that is not - people tend to pay more attention to things if it means that the failure could result in catastrophe, whereas they tend to get lazy and ignore or delay things on a daily driver

if you plan to drive it, the worst car to buy is one with extremely low mileage on it and has never been tracked - that car you will be spending a LOT of money on bringing it up to snuff, replacing all the hardened rubber, and all that - it never got enough exercise, and certainly not enough stress to show any weaknesses that needed attention

but if paint is the issue, then a tracked car will certainly show more wear and tear

obviously there are limits

For me, it is simply wear-n-tear & metal fatigue.

Never been a fan of any track duty for unibodies.

Regardless of mechanical condition, a car that has been tracked with regularity will never be "right" in my opinion.

Bah! Humbug!

Compared to the driving conditions on roads in the northeast, the track is pretty easy on the car.

metal fatigue is certainly a concern, and obviously a tracked car is subjected to more loads and therefore more fatigue

of course the amount of tracking is the real question there, and an occasional session here and there each year should not be a concern, but would still provide the benefit of the inherent "i should check everything out so i don't breakdown or crash" mentality that accompanies guys who track that is often absent from those who don't

i mean, when is the last time you checked the torque on your lug nuts before a drive, let alone inspected brake pad thickness, suspension bushings, or bearing play?

I just love it when the seller says this:

"Ice cold/ac" sure...

That just kills me! Great heat, ok. But even on it's best day ever, my a/c was never "ice cold". Does any Porsche really have "ice cold" a/c?

Thanks for the link Joel, the car looks ok but it's not much different than another couple of midblue 968s I know of here in Ca which I could probably buy off the owners for a comparable price .. as for M030 parts, I have the sway bars on my car as well, but I'm really looking for the wheel hubs/spindles and the brakes, in a complete factory package. I know a lot of folks here think big reds or big blacks or whatnot are even better than the M030 brakes, or that you can improve on a bunch of other similar features, hubs, spindles, etc.. so why not do that.. sure, any single item may offer some advantages but it's always at the expense of something else.. which turns out to be the case with ANY after market product. The factory M030 is IMHO one of the most perfectly balanced, ideal touring cars ever made, so that's what I'm looking to get..

Sure Jim, I'm adamant to a midnight blue car... with ONE exception : speed yellow ( NOT summer yellow though ) and I'm also drooling at that 968 CS Johann posted. I'm only stuck on color because it's a second car - if I HAD to replace my current 968, I'd go for slate grey, cobalt blue, silver, amazon green, another iris blue, without hesitation.. but that;s not what I'm doing..

while i would not choose an M030 car, as i am more about function than form, and there is much better stuff out there nowadays than what came on the M030, i still agree with dan's desire to get get exactly what he wants

however, i disagree with the assessment regarding it's status as a touring car - i think if he spent some real time driving it, he would end up getting rid of the shocks

but that would still leave him with the rest

I never said there isn't better stuff out there than the M030 components, I simply believe it's difficult if not impossible to put that better stuff on a 968 and still have everything work as well balanced with everything else as the car does with the M030 factory setup.. or, maybe if you spend $ 50k you will, but I just want the original set up which has an even wear and tear on all parts so you don't end up upgrading one thing, and then having to upgrade ten others to make up for the trickle effect that generates..
BTW, I think you may have driven M030s with the shocks dialed up to a fairly stiff setting, the car is quite smooth otherwise..
