Revitalizing the shift linkage
#1

I'm looking to revitalize my shift linkage to make it feel as good as (or better) than new.

RS barn offers a short shift kit, as well as a shift 'block':

It may also be a good idea to replace any wearable parts in the shifter while I'm at it.

I'm not too technical and still fairly unfamiliar with the 968. What do you folks recommend?

Thanks in advance.

there are 2 small bushings on the shifter pin that connects to the linkage - those wear out

a new lower bushing comes with the short shifter kit

I did the short shift mod from RS Barn and I am pleased with the result. However, I'm glad I did the oil change in the rear first (Redline 75W90NS) that significantly improved smoothness when shifting since the short shift requires a little more input.

i haven't run redline gear oil yet, but i hear nothing but good things about it

always good to hear you're happy with the results with the shift kit - it sure does seem to make it more fun to drive for a lot of people

i do need to get around to fixing the instructions though - the photo showing the installation of the lower bushing is missing the retainer plate, so it can be confusing if you don't think about it - the next time i have somebody over here to install one, or the next time pete installs one, we'll get a shot to replace the one in the instructions

Thanks guys.

So what's the shift block about?

Does it complement or replace the short shift kit? What's your recommendation Flash?

the shift block takes up some of the slop in the rear - i have not personally tested it with the short shift kit, but when i was working on it, i had the conversation with pete about it - he felt that, because the block is aluminum, that it would "break in" and overcome any initial resistance

however, i would call him to see how that has actually worked out in real world application

perhaps somebody here who has done it will chime in
