Rev limit for transxle?
#21

no worries - certainly it was a pain in the butt to do

of course, the smart thing to do at that point, since you have the transaxle out, and if you have the resources, is to swap out the pinion bearing if it has not already been done (just to take that off yoru mind), and install LSD if you don't have it

but then, you're back up to a little over 3 grand for the whole job

Thanks guys! You are a God send! I was thinking this could be the end of my 968 ownership. (I have mentioned before that with kids in college, money for fun things like this is hard to come by....)

I will be contacting the shop Bob mentioned, and it turns out there is also a speed shop here in town (Moorespeed Racing) that may be able to do the job locally.

I already have LSD, and a new pinion, but if I can find any Christmas money changing out the flyweel appeals to me.....

[quote name='Brian' date='Oct 7 2005, 03:01 PM']so as i drove it, the sound went away.  i haven't heard it all summer.

i figure my scenario was just a little rust in the bearings from sitting all winter.

not saying you don't have a problem, just sharing my experience.

if you haven't driven it much lately, it may work itself out.

Hi Brian. Glad this worked out for you, but I doubt I will have your luck. I live in Austin TX. Winter doesn't really get this far south. Also this has been my daily driver, so it isn't from just sitting.

I do feel vibration at high RPM for each gear ratio. My mechanic says that if you go on the bad bearing for too long you can warp the inner shaft. I don't know enough to say whether this is a real concern or not.....

Are the bearings for the 968 Torque Tube the same as a 944?

My mechanic has contacted 928 International. They quoted the price that Flash gave me, but they were not sure they could do a 968 Torque Tube. They wanted to know if the bearings are the same as a 944?

Since they did Flash's, they must be able to do a 968. Is it the same bearings as the 944? Or maybe the 944S or 944 Turbo, or heck, the 928? They didn't seem to know....
