Given that our cars are up to 18 years old now, any many other things are also wearing out, some of which currently can't be had for any amount of money, I wouldn't think that this sort of thing would be useful. i like my seats and wouldn't want to have the "snug room" between the side bolsters and me made smaller.

All I can say is fugly. That look works in an off roader, but not a sports car.

I saw those also and considered putting them on with my new drivers seat, But decided I just didn't like the look and after spending$1K for the leather seat I wanted to show it off. It is a solution, however. I guess I'd rather have the bolster repaired when it gets torn.

Me too. I've had the bolsters repaired in a couple of cars and the shop did such an amazing job you could not detect there was anything done to the area. I think it was about $ 300 or maybe a bit more .

However, I do think these things can serve not as a protector for nice seats which you want to show off ( as it's being advertised ), but to temporarily cover up beat-up bolsters which are just about to start tearing and are even "fuglier" than having these on ..buying you some more time until you get around to having the bolster renewed.. Might be useful if you are planning to part-time race or AutoX with stock seats as a protector, or if you have a blown up bolster and don't want to fix it. For a DD or hobby car just be careful getting in and out and your bolsters should last just fine.

I have refined a special technique for entering and exiting the Porsche 968. Upon entering, I lower my body while slamming my shin into the leading edge of the dash then fall into the seat while in significant pain. Then when exiting, I throw the other leg out of the car first, slamming it into the edge of the dash, and try to lift my fat a$$ out with my right hand on the wheel and the other on the door sill. By the time I have done this a few times around town, I no longer need chiro and my legs feel like they just played hockey without pads. But I don't care about that. I could just get in and out like any other normal person. I'd be on my third or fourth seat by now if I did that. But you know what? I'll tell you what. Normal is a setting on my dryer. Normal is a cupholder that came already in the car. Normal and 968 just don't belong in the same sentence, except in this one for the purpose of this here diatribe. I willingly sacrifice my body so that my driver's side bolster doesn't have to.

not a bad routine overall, but you get point deductions for having missed the compulsory moves of getting fingerprints all over the outside of the a pillar and windshield, leaning on the center console so hard that you worry about breaking it, and of course stuffing the parking brake handle higher up your butt than any proctologist would ever go on both the entry and exit

but, you get bonus points for the dismount technique

Very funny guys...

If Chicago gets the Olympics we could have this as an event for sure.

The "degree of difficulty" increases if you engage the parking brake (aka "Widowmaker") and attempt mount/dismount wearing dress pants with cuffs. Even the slightest tear can cost you a full tenth. Combined with an errant fingerprint, there goes a shot at the podium...

RE: Post 7.

V Funny Scott. I sometimes forget that my stature allows me a bit more dignified entry and exit from these cars, not to mention a perfectly comfortable 4-hour stint in coach.

Trying out the re:post thing. Not really working for me.....

Thanks, guys. I laughed out loud on the Porschnastics moves. Try that with factory sport seats... Those darn bolsters are HUGE. I have to move the seat back to get in and out owning to being only 5'8" and having to get too darn close to the dash to execute any of those aforementioned moves.

I just happened to see this post and could not resist: "Go RIO go!" Having four daughters born in Brasil (yes - withan "s" NOT a "z") it makes it quite easy to cheer RIO on. She is the "cidade maravilhosa" (marvelous city).
