Old thread but since it touches just a little upon this topic, I’ll post here :   So this is about the 911, but I wonder how our 968s fare in that respect .. similar, or different because of the transaxle effect and 50/50 weight balance ..??

Chassis stiffness is measured using Nm/deg (Newton-metres per degree) which shows how much torque the chassis can cope with per degree of torsional rotation. To illustrate just how much rigidity is lost by the absence of a solid roof, the standard Porsche 911 has a rigidity of 27,000 Nm/deg, while the convertible can only manage 11,600 Nm/deg.  The chassis has less than half of the coupe’s rigidity !  Body flex is materially more pronounced in a convertible, and will be felt in turns, or at high speeds, among other handling characteristics.

I (re)read the 968 vs Boxster comments with a smile on my face. Like the OP, approaching 70 with lower back problems, I’m looking to sell my 968 and buy a Boxster. For several reasons. One, I wanna enjoy whatever time I have left driving with the top down, not storing my car 3/4 of the year and living in fear of rain, miles, errant parking lot dings, and a host if other things that keep me from fully enjoying my garage queen.

The original 968 equation certainly involved the rarity. I’m my 18 years of ownership, I’ve pulled up alongside exactly one other 968.  Oddly enough a 1 of 2 IIRC, Magenta/purple cab.

Early Boxster are somewhat rare® these days. But I don’t mind. I want something I can use year round. And wouldn’t you know it, after looking off and on for 3-4 years, I found a 44,000 mile cream puff 2 blocks from my apt.

As soon as I sell my Cab, I’m replacing it with a base 986 with a hardtop. Hopefully the one next door will still be available.
