#41

I've made several inquiries re the clear bra and haven't found an installer that has the pattern for a 968. Still working on it.

The installers that I've contacted have said that they don't have the program to cut a 968 set, or that X-Pel, the source of kits for some suppliers, doesn't offer a 968 kit.

The shop that did the paint job recommended a local company that does the clear bra with this method. Anyone familiar with Autobahnd? http://autobahndint.com/home.html

I go on vacation at the end of this week for two weeks - taking the 968 up to Martha's Vineyard. So, sometime in September I'm sure I'll be visiting RS Barn, and we'll also aim for a "fun run". Then you'll get to see the full treatment (I probably should have had the top up for this photo, then you would have seen that - oh, well).

The "tow hitch" is the mounting point for a bike rack that holds two bikes quite nicely. I'll be using that to carry bikes to the Vineyard, so I'll shoot a couple of photos and post them. I'm pretty sure I purchased the rack from Performance Products, although I don't see it in the most recent catalog.

hmmm - i wonder if it is sturdy enough to be used as a rear tow point for the track?

I have seen a boxter at a DE with a small trailer for carrying track wheels.

Mounted somewhat differently than what I did, it probably could work to pull a light trailer - as long as you have a "hitch" that will fit into the "receiver". As fas as I know, it is smaller than any standard trailer size. If you're interested in understanding this item better, I'll take some photos.

just trying to see if it is a better rear tow point option - i don't want to drag anything with the 968, but i'd like to be able to be dragged easily if i break down on the track - when it happened in portland, i had to use the big black tube behind my head - lol - it reminded me of water skiing

I would not count on this part of the bike rack being strong enough to use to tow the car. The "receiver" is mounted on a reasonably heavy steel plate the size of the license plate, and the plate is through bolted into the rear bumper with the two bolts you can see going through the license plate. Horizontal load would pull the bottom of the steel plate away from the body - so additional bolts would help, but there's nothing behind that area of the plate mount to bolt to.
Well, sometime in the future, I will most likely get my car repainted. I know the easiest and least expensive way is to get the same color done. But, I'm not so sure I like the color I have with respect to some other colors.

Has anyone ever had their 968 repainted a different color? If so, could you share some of your experiences? I am assuming, to do it right, that most everything needs to be stripped from the car. But I am not sure.

Don't get me wrong- I love to color of my car, but depending upon prevailing factors, I may change it!
I've had more cars than I can even remember in my 55 years, but one I will never forget. I changed the color on only one. I was in my early 20s and bought a really low mileage 240z that was a butt ugly shade of green. It looked just like the old dark green phone trucks in the 60s. Anyway, I got it cheap, like 1500 bucks, and paid 800 for a paint job. I stripped the interior out, and painted everything a black laquer. 800 bucks in the 70s was a lot of money for a paint job, and I was pretty much broke. My tires needed replacing and I decided to wait until my next payday so I wouldn't have to use a charge card. The weekend I got the car back from the paint shop for the third and final time, I lost it in the rain in a curve doing about 30 MPH, rolled it down a 20 foot embankment into a cornfield. The car appeared to be demolished. I had liability but no collision and wound up selling it to a body shop for 900 bucks, not the same one who did the paint job though. The guy who bought it, gave me a lame estimate and tricked me into selling him the car. He fixed it and sold it for a tidy profit. I wasn't very wise in the ways of the city back in those days, but it was several lessons I never forgot. Moral of the story is don't change the color of your car.
