Removing the Soft Top motors
#1

Has anyone yanked the soft top motors and made the top manual? How much weight would be saved and how would that mess with the current gears and wear?

Thanks in advance!

pain in the neck - danged near need to remove top - and they're tiny little things that don't weigh much either (maybe 2lbs each) - i gave up on the idea - i may go back and do it when i replace my top though, just because i can

you can stick it in manual mode by just turning the drive nut as indicated in the manual

I have heard from a couple sources that if I leave the top in manual mode for to long, I risk getting flat spots on the gears. Oh well...

I love the manual top on the Miata.

dosn't make sense to me - the top would be resting in the same spot, regardless of whether or not the motor was driving the thing - the pivoting mechanism stays regardless of motor prescense (unless you replace it with semething else)

perhaps somebody was thinking the motors and side gears were somehow connected? - the motors are in the back and just drive a cable
