Removal - Top or Bottom
#1

I've been reading and see different opinions about removal. So, for those of you that have done it, does it come out the top easily?

I pulled mine out from the top. I had a guy with a lot of experience help me, and after a good half hour of head-scratching and measuring, we didn't see any way to get it out from the bottom, given the limitations my jack's ability to lift the car. With a lift, and a tall ceiling, I'm sure it could be taken out from the bottom, but I ended up removing it from the top, and had no problems. One thing that helped was a load leveler from Harbor Freight - it gave us an extra dimension of control over the tilt angle of the engine as we were pulling it out, and it also helped a lot when we put it back in.

The other thing I would recommend is to not completely remove the hood, because it's such a pain to put it back on. If I had it to do over again, I'd disconnect the struts, allowing the hood to be pulled back farther, and somehow suspending it from the ceiling. Good luck.

Excellent, someone that has done it! You can't beat experience.

About how long did it take you to yank it out? Are there any tips about putting it back in the car? I assume you didn't have to remove the cross member?

The top route has always looked easier to me. I've pulled V8 engines in my youth, so the top is what I'm used to.
