The most common failure from a crappy fitting pump will be coolanr leakage...easy to diagnose.
Second most common is impeller slipping on the shaft = overheating. If this is the case you should be overheating and pushing coolant out of the overflow bottle, also easy.
i would not worry if Pete made the repair. 6 years is not "young". You may have a pu,p issue.
maybe electrical gremlins are your issue, not a bad pump.
Sort out the electrics and see what happens to the temp gauge, but check to engine after a drive to see if things seems a bit too warm. When you shut of the car, it almost always causes the fans to kick on as the pump stops circulating the coolant. Check if they are on more than normal for your car and the temp outside and see how long they stay on after you are stopped. That will give you an idea of how hot the coolant was when you shut down. This presumes that your thermo swithch and relay and fans are all ok.
Hope this helps, good luck. Better to be on the safe side. Check instead of worrying.
