Reasonable price for an engine block
#1

Benign engine fire, the car is wrecked but according to the workshop the engine is fine. The top end will live in another car and the bottom sold to a friend who just had his conrods doing an open air exercise. What would a complete normal engine price be and the value of a bottom end?

All the best!

They seem to sell for $3,299 - $3,995, depending on the mileage. They pop up on ebay fairly often.

Sorry to hear about the fire. Bummer... Best of luck getting things back together.

I will be swapping engines in my 968 this August. So I have a well maintained high mileage engine that doesn't burn oil, that I will have no space for.

I may swap earlier, but that's my plan for now. About 228,000 mi on it, but it runs like new. I was going to rebuild, but found a younger motor to swap, and mine is a daily driver.

The swap came with lots of extras.

Not sure if you would be interested in mine.

not sure if his is miles or clicks, but it isn't out of the question either

i've seen bare blocks go for as little as $400 - complete engines as low as $1500, all in the last year

that doesn't mean that they all will - it's pretty open, depending on condition, history, use, yada yada

Yes, it was miles I converted it. It would be the whole engine though, as I have no storage for spare parts unfortunately or I would keep it.

Its in the car now and running strong. I could move up my installation time if it was helpful.

I had a knowledgeable machinist tell me these blocks can go a million miles. But the other components (bearings, rings, valve seats and guides, etc.) would be long gone by then...
