The transmission is in the back of the car, so no the rear main seal on the engine wouldn't be effected. If your changing the clutch in the car it's a good time to replace it though.

Thanx. I knew about the positioning
Was asking because I had my transmission pulled out twice for gearbox work. On getting my car back, the 2nd time, the notes mentioned "rear main seal leak".
However I've never had a drop of oil in my garage before.
My questions is: What was he doing up at the clutch to pull a transmission? He should not have been anywhere need the clutch!
Wouldn't a leak be noticeable to a mechanic when the car is put in the air?

Most good mechanics will look over (and under) a car when brought in for something; and as earossi mentioned, with all the fibers from the clutch it may just be "wet" but not dripping (yet). Put it on stands and take a look yourself (oil on the clutch is bad <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ).
