On which side is the gas cap dude ?
#1

Was always told you can tell where the gas tank cap is on any car ( this comes in handy with rental cars when you forget to look for it before you get in, as I manage to do all the time ...) by the fuel gauge icon on the instrument panel ; the newer cars have an arrow near that pump icon which points to the side where the cap is located and on the older models it's via the old school method : whichever side of the pump icon has the hose drawn on it. However, not all cars have a pump icon or an arrow so while riding in one of those cars today ( had a business associate in town with a rented car which he wanted to fill up before returning it to the airport ) not able to see where it was by just looking in the side view mirrors, and too lazy to pull over and stop before we got to the station ( because heaven forbid we would have to take a guess, pull up on the wrong side, and then drive again a few feet to the other side of the pump , LOL ) I decided to call the rental place for the answer. So the rental dude says : " uhh, I don't know on that particular car, but I know that on all cars it's always on the opposite side of where the exhaust pipe is ". Yeah, that's really helpful ! Besides, what if the car has a dual exhaust ?! Anyway, just a PSA for those who will be renting a car the near future and forget to check the side with the cap before driving off...

p.s. I know some of you are running over to your 968s right now to see if the icon has the hose on the passenger side of the pump, LOL.

Lol, I just filled up my entire trunk and it still won't start. Maybe I have to check the ignition?

All German cars have it on the passenger side, so you don't get run over if you run out of gas and have to fill it with a gas can on the side of the road. I miss the old American car placement of behind the swing-down rear license plate. It worked equally well from either side.

that placement had another advantage : it made it easier to hide behind someone else's car and put a rope ( fuse ) in there to light it up without being as conspicuous <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
