Quotes and sig lines acting different
#1

I use to be able to edit my sig font size and style. But no mater what I tell it, it defaults to standard. See how small my sig line reads?

Also, when I quote another member it no longer puts the quote in a shaded box. The html is now showing
. W/o that box finding the actual new post requires a bit of work. And who wants that

Were these to changes intentional or do we have a gremlin?

some of the sig changes were intentional - too much space was being used in sigs by people putting pics and such in there, causing posts to be unnecessarily wasteful in space

the quote thing is a new one on me - no idea what that is about - i sure wish people wouldn't always quote everything though - there are some that feel they have to quote an entire post before responding, rather than merely starting their response with the name of the person to whom they are responding - it's a real pain in the butt to have to scroll down to get to the new post - there is almost never a need to quote even a portion of a post - it would get deleted as a function altogether if it weren't for the occasional place where a particular sentence, phrase, or something like that is helpful

I see your point.

Funny Rhude!

But seriously, I try to only quote the sentence or wording I am referencing so as to make the readers understand the intent of the reply. It is helpful since there is always something lost due to lack of voice inflection and tone when using forums. I too find it somewhat annoying if people quote an entire post and it is directly above their reply...certainly seems redundant!

Saw both today and wanted to alert someone, however I see other quotes from today are working fine so...

Quotes come in handy when replying to a question stated a few post back. Because it puts the question your answering right above your answer. So now your answer makes sense regardless of the direction the conversation went.

I recall a couple of heated discussions because an answer/comment was given without quoting the post/question.

easier and cleaner to say something like "re: post #5"

RE: post # 8

= Form follows function, always.

I'd suggest that there is typically a middle ground, and this seems to be a perfect example. Quoting long strings is a bit wasterful, especially if there is a picture in the quote, and it slows down the experience for the reader. However, I find judicious use of the feature convenient, as it alleviates me from having to scroll up to figure out what Post # 8 was all about, which would also slow the end experience. I guess I've become so customer centric in my business activities that I see anything that improves a customer experience as worth considering at the least.

yeah - it's the long quotes that are a really bother - the one that really bugs me is when somebody quote a long post and then says NOTHING - what is that about?

It's even worse when when someone quotes a post that has pics.

your up early Pat.

I always think those quotes with nothing behind them are mistakes by newbies. Quite often its followed by a post w/ actual text by the same member.
