quick fix for minor cab water leaks
#1

For some time I have been working on getting my top to be 100% leak free. The top corners of the windscreen, where the "a" pillar rubber meats the rubber of the top seems to be where rain will drip into the car. The downhill run from the top to the sides of the car seem to channel rain water to this area on both sides, by the top of the corner glass.

I have discovered a fix, although not visually perfect:

I spread a small amount of Permatex black, silicon adhesive sealant 16B (Item#81158) on the entire top surface of the rubber molding located on the top, where is contacts the other rubber molding on the car. I then gently place a small piece of clear, stretch and cling wrap on top of the wet silicon.

Clamp down the top and let it dry overnight. Open the top and remove the clear wrap, which will not stick to the silicon and you will see that any imperfection in the seal between the two moldings has been filled by the silicon.

Visually, the silicon has more of a shine than the rubber, but that is only noticeable if you ride without the tonneau cover .

that's a lot better than a new $600 seal

The top of my cab, had a leak when heavy rain at high speed.
It was the rubber sealing to the side window that was a little deformed with time.
As the sealing is hollow, I pressed another rubber in the hole to expand the deformed OEM sealing a little bit.
Problem solved for 100%, and also very, very cheap.
