Some of you probably have been following this story, but please be careful who you let know the location of your cars. They recently caught a guy in Massachusetts who stole and chopped up a heavily modded 951 (RolexNJ's car, the red 951 on Lindsey Racing ad in Excellence). He also stole and chopped several Subaru's and stole a Ferrari 355 Challenge. He was active on Rennlist and would identify (and locate) potential theft targets through the forum. The culprit specfically went after heavily modded cars with expensive premium parts. It appears that Raj's Turbo was also being targeted as well.

A thought, there should never be fun runs that start at somebody's house, or if it does, address info distributed only by PM and to known people.



Our recent norcal fun run started at a rest stop. . . the theft thread got me to thinking that should be SOP for all of us.

Wow -- I don't want to get us all paranoid over this. Personally, I have met many great people at get-togethers and wrenching sessions -- I don't want to see an end to that!



To be frank, from the point of view of a typical theif, most of our cars are not worth as much as half the cars on the street. There are plenty of nicer cars and easy to chop cars out there. The cars in most danger are the highly modded cars with premium parts, like the ones this guy targetted.

Let me know if anyone needs their info deleted from the google guestmap. I am happy to remove all info from the questmap if people feel it's prudent, no need to lobby me but I do enjoy expensive meals.



Also, this is the only site I have kept the questmap link updated for because it requires an account to view. And I only ever posted the link and info to 968.net and the popular UK 968 Forum (never at rennlist).

3) 90 pound dog that you can hear growling from 100ft with access to the garage - check

4) Retired nosy neighbor who shares the driveway and is always armed - check

5) Live at the end of a dead end street with only one way out - check

6) Have to drive by several police cruisers on that street to get to my house - check

7) More police and fire fighters per capita then any town in the country - check

I agree totally. Also, I like the guest map. Perhaps my previous post was a little drastic. I was under the impression that most people steal Honda Accords and similar autos that tend to be easy to steal quickly part out. Wasn't the Acura NSX very popular to steal a while back as well?

lol - since my car rarely leaves the garage, and i'm usually in it when it does, i really only have to worry about access to it, and that's secure - car is disabled, so they'd need a tow truck to get it out, assuming they can get in to begin with - at night, or when we are out of town, the door is additionally locked, power is cut to the opener, and the alarm is set



still, i may get around to low jack - i have it in the bmw, and on-star in the yukon - so, i guess i should do it there too

Damascus Maryland. Study is a little out of date but it was true about 7-10 years ago. It was once the only affordable area in the county so it and a another town out in the boonies had all of the police and firefighters living there. I kwow of one street where there are 17 houses and after a few police officers moved there are still 9 houses owned by police. Really not too much crime in my area and when there is they pull all the stops out to catch them. It does have the down side of keeping the speeds down when driving in the area as you never know whether the crusier you see is off duty or on duty.



Up until a year ago the Park Police used an open area on my street to park their crusiers so at any given time there could be 30 or 40 cars parked there plus the crusiers from the officers who live on my street. Scared the hell out of a few guys who came to my house for a get together.

The local village was going to build their police station right across the street from me between two multi-million dollar mansions. Thankfully, opposition was fierce.
