last night. Installed the noise filter in-line on the switched 12V wire to the radio (Big Green one). That got rid of all the ignition noise.



Checked the wire that powers the antenna amp, no juice there. So I ran a jumper wire to the amp connector. That fixed that! Now it gets radio stations better than my other car!



Side note - the 968 workshop manual calls my paint "Amazon Green Pearl Effect" COOL!!! No wonder that color looks so good!

if you had ignition noise, you likely had another problem that the filter is now masking - i would disconnect it and start looking at grounds unless you have non resistor plugs or wires - this presumes it was not the "whine" that an alternator can make through the radio when there is an issue up there

Could you give me some idea of where to start looking? I'm sure the right plug wires are on the car.

ok - sure - let's start with a description of the noise -



did it go up and down with revs?

was it a whine, a buzz, or a crackle?

did it change with electrical load?



are there any other electrical issues in the car?

up and down - yes

crackle, AM only

Didn't seem to change with load

ok - AM is tough to make quiet to begin with, but try this - run a ground wire from the chassis of the deck to the chassis of the car - it sounds like you have a ground fault there - the AM section of the antenna needs to be a continuous wire, and have a good deck chassis ground - the FM section is a closed circuit, coaxial measured wave antenna - if the signal improves, you have found your problem



filters may dampen noise, but they also dampen gain, and they don't just do it in AM, which can become annoying when you get into dodgy FM areas - they may end up being the only solution, but give finding the source of the problem a shot first - there should be no noise if everything is working right
