Which is what a wax is. They never refer to it as a wax but they mention that it has a wax booster and they compare it to other waxes sooo...

"Ultima Paint Guard Plus, containing Polycharger Wax Booster technology, is the longest lasting, clearest and easiest paint protection you can apply to your car. This product takes about ten minutes to apply to a clean, dry vehicle. Simply wipe on and walk away. No buffing required.

Ordinary waxes and paint sealants easily wash off in a matter of weeks, but Ultima Paint Guard Plus continues protecting, "

Wax is NOT a protector. It offers no protection whatsoever and only adds shine. Waxes wash off and can also be stripped by various soaps, but a sealer will last for months - at least it's supposed to. Manufacturers will commonly mis-use the terminology. Can anyone explain to me what "Polycharge Wax Booster Technology" is? Can you say marketing?

Just for fun, I'm willing to guinea pig a panel. I haven't started to do any paint correction on my 420SEL and it's in real bad shape or I can use my Sport Trac which has never had a proper polishing. I can tape off whichever panel into three sections. I will clay the whole thing so we're starting from equal points. One section will get an all-in one product (polish/sealer/wax) such as Klasse or Poorboys. Next section will get the Ultima Paint guard product. The last section will get properly prepped, sealed and waxed. I'll leave thin stripes to delineate the sections. I wouldn't do this to someone's car but quite frankly, I don't mind doing it to mine 'cause I'll fix it when I'm done. Anyone interested in some photos?

Are you speaking in terms of experience between waxes and sealants and simply saying that sealants are better or are you saying that waxes are not known as protectors?

Every wax is made to provide a thin layer of protection against ultraviolet rays, acid rain, pollution, insect fluids, bird droppings etc. That layer on top of your paint is protecting your car's finish. After all, without wax the water doesn't bead up and run off. instead you get water spots.

Now I'm seriously confused - I thought wax actually traps water spots ( without a sealant over it ) more so than even the plain paint without anything on it might..

Rhude, that's an excellent link and provides decent information. I've read that before. Most of these detailing sites provide good info but you have to know where the facts stop and the marketing hype begins.

I mis-spoke when I stated that was offers no protection whatsover, BUT, a pure wax is not designed to protect, only to shine. ANYTHING put on your paint will protect it a little bit until it washes off and that's the problem with a wax...it doesn't last very long. Didn't someone a few posts ago said they Armor-All'ed their entire car? Probably didn't hurt anything, but I don't think I'd recommend that.

I like the side by side hood compare near the bottom of the link with FMJ on one side and P21S on the other side. Not a fair comparison since they are two differnet products. Why did they do that? My guess would be to show the difference in shine and the advantage/disadvantage chart makes good points. I usually seal with FMJ and allow to cure overnight (or even multiple layers of FMJ) and then I'll add a P21S on top. FMJ is a sealer that provides a good deal of shine but P21S is a pure wax. This is a perfect example of people bing misled by marketing and jargon.

I think the Ultima Paint Guard Spray is a probably a fine product and probably does what it advertises, but it isn't/can't/doesn't/won't do everything as a wonder product. I'd like to try it and probably will at some point and I think most of us know enough and have waxed our cars long enough to know the basics. I'm not trying to claim to know anything different than anyone else, but they sum it up in the first paragraph of the link you provided:

A fantastic shine is 90% surface preparation and 10% the final wax or sealant used. For a show car or Concours car, I would venture it's 97% preparation and 3% the final wax or sealant. If you prepare the paint properly, your car will look stunning regardless of the wax or sealant you end up using!

That's essentially what I said in post #32...the secret is in the prep! Fun to debate but everyone will end up using the products they want and like for whatever reasons. Bottom line is that if you don't clean, polish and seal, (in that order) you're just waxing crap and may actually do more harm than good.

Prep work is key. And I could use a pro's touch in that area. I still plan on bringing my 68 by and seeing if you can help me with a few scratches. Actually I may be able to swing by mid day on detail day. But time will be tight so I wouldnt be able to stay long.

Darryl, did you ever try this stuff? If so, what did you think? I'm about to detail the 993 soon and will probably use this then.
