I was thinking 2nd through 4th gears. 2nd looks like it might be useful on those first ~6 turns.

Do you know if we need the plastic shield on the front of our helmets? I was thinking about leaving it off for better ventilation.

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - josephsc - 08-06-2006

Nah.... if you're using second gear in those turns, you're not driving fast enough! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Are you thinking about the visor? Event rules vary from organization to organization and from track to track -- but I have yet to come across an event that requires a visor (as long as you have a windshield). But then, this is the first organization that still wants us to wear long sleeved shirts. Personally, my helmet doesn't have a visor -- so I hope it's ok.....

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - flash - 08-07-2006

pretty sure i said this somewhere (email or something) but, they will not be requiring long sleeve shirts on this event

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - josephsc - 08-07-2006

That's great -- I saw the long sleeved shirt in the tech sheet but must have missed your email. Long sleeved shirt in the middle of the summer in a hot car simply sucks -- especially when I have to have my cabin heat on full blast to keep the engine cool....

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - flash - 08-08-2006

yeah - i talked to the guy - he's letting us off the hook on long pants and long sleeve shirts - shorts and tees are cool - everything must be cotton though, and must have closed toe shoes

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - Aahz - 08-16-2006

Hey Bob,

Do you have any plans set for caravaning to the track?

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - flash - 08-17-2006

hadn't gotten that far yet - i still need to lay the route out and figure out what time to leave - i should be able to work all that out tomorrow - was pretty busy tearing car apart to replace fragged clutch, and do another spring change

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - Aahz - 08-17-2006

My bad. I had it in my mind that it was this weekend.

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - josephsc - 08-17-2006

I'm going to another track day tomorrow (Friday) at Buttonwillow if you're anxious to go. I think the organizers are desperate to get more people -- I doubt they've even hit their break-even point. So I'm sure there's plenty of space even at the last minute.

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - Aahz - 08-18-2006

Thanks for the invite, Joe.

I decided not to push my luck as I'll need to replace my front tires after giving them a good last thrash. I also have a significant oil leak which I'm taking care of on Monday, so this works out well.

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - josephsc - 08-21-2006

By the way, what's the passenger rule for this event? Can Intermediates take on non-instructor passengers? Can Beginners? (w/ helmet and seat belt/harness, of course....)

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - flash - 08-22-2006

i just sent a very detailed and lengthy email to everyone coming, that should answer all questions

but, the short answer is, upon strict instructor approval, passengers will be allowed, in later run sessions, and subject to the same safety, belt, clothing, and helmet regulations

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - ether_joe - 08-25-2006

hey guys just stopping by to wish you all a safe and exciting track day

"have fun storming the castle" <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

We all definately had fun even in the "103deg" heat, and as Bob would say, "kept the shiny side up". Here is a video link of one of my sessions:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ8JEPMASXA

We each received 30 minute instruction towards the begining of the day. I have video of this as well as many other sessions if anyone is interested.

It's the most fun I've had in a long time.

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - ether_joe - 08-28-2006

whoohoo! lots of fun.

I'm assuming that's Flash in the blue cab in front of you?

Rustech sounds like you have a non-stock exhaust. . . very growly, I like it.

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - flash - 08-28-2006

i had fun too, but it was way too hot for me - i was done by late morning - was dizzy and/or lightheaded almost the whole time, and thought it was a better idea to call it a day than to stack up the car or worse by pushing myself too hard

still, got some things figured out more on the car, and am headed back in there for another round of suspension mods

can't wait to go back when it is cooler

no, that was not me in front of eric - it was DJ

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - S_Cal968 - 08-29-2006

Oh sorry to hear that Bob... That was another reason why I didn't go, I knew it would be blazing hot out there. Sitting in a hot car with a hemet on, one can dehydrate very quickly.

How long did it take to drive out there..?

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - flash - 08-29-2006

lol - only took about an hour to drive out there, but a good hour and a half to get back - um - well - it must have been shorter going that direction - yeah - that's it! no officer, i wasn't speeding

SOCAL TRACK DAY - SAT AUG 26-27 - tom968 - 08-30-2006

Eric, saw the video. Nice driving. Looks like you were held up

for a few laps.
