Any shop with a Bosch Hammer or other diag tool like the Durametric can reset it. I wouldn't think the dealer would charge $200 for that, it's less then a half hours work, just plug in and reset. If they charge $200 then your only about $150 away from buying the Durametric diag tool for the car.

My local shop wanted 75.00 to clear the light so I just bit the bullet and built my own interface. I have used it twice since then so it was well worth having done the build.

Bummer - it will be a bit costly no matter where you have it done, but this is just a suggestion for the next time you disconnect the battery ; do a search on the forum for instructions on what steps will prevent that dreaded light.. I have it written somewhere and followed it every single time, just can't locate the note at the moment. Of the countless times I had the battery disconnected, or replaced, etc. not once have I had the light come on. I think the rule is to disconnect the positive terminal first, then negative, and Wait at least 20 minutes before reconnecting the battery back , in the same order of terminals you disconnected it.. Could be negative first and then positive, but in any event I think the time lapse is the critical part.

If I disconnect the batter overnight will it reset the airbag light?

Disconnecting the battery overnight will only reset the airbag on a subset of the models. I believe CDN and USA models will not reset via this method. Rule of thumb (as I found the hard way) NEVER connect the battery if you have the air bag wire disconnected while working on your car. I had my car apart a few winters ago doing lots of things and had to hook up the battery to test as I played; had the steering wheel off for quite a while without thinking about the airbag within. Had to drive around with black tape on the instrument cluster for 6 months until I built an ODB I reader, how embarrassing <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Left the interior light on over night and had a dead battery as a result. Tried to start it with the charger in 'engine start' mode but it did not work. Left the charger on for an hour, car started fine, but... the Air Bag warning light is now on!

Is the only way to get rid of this to use something like a Durametric tool?

the airbag light cannot be reset without an appropriate tool. this is a precaution in the event of a crash. they don't want you driving the car without inspecting the airbag system. there is an EEPROM that records those faults, and has to be cleared.

I had the same problem about a month ago after charging a partially drained battery. I had never taken the car to the dealer so decided to try it - they charged me $50.00 (1/2 hour labour) to reset the the light. I was expecting it to cost more

Good to know. My battery is very weak, and the light just came on. I will try the Durametric on it.

Sent an email to local European import shop (Turn3 Autosport) asking if they have a "reset" tool to get rid of the "Air Bag" light, and how much it would cost.

This is the reply I got: "Thanks for thinking of us to reset the light. Just swing by and we will take care of it for free."

Very smart marketing on their part! I will drop by there tomorrow...
