Pott Wine

Upcoming Wine Offer

Dear Jay

Thanks for signing up to our mailing list, we've had a real surge of interest and support recently which has been such a great boost to our confidence! Anyway, I expect you are wondering when you are going to get a chance to buy some of our wine? So that's the good news: the offer will begin next Tuesday (the 29th) October. It's going to be a rush, first-come-first-served kind of thing, so you might want to make a note to have your fingers hovering over a computer some time around 10am PST.

I'll email you again on the day with a link to log you in.

In the meantime, have a great weekend.

Claire Pott

Hey Jay,

This is one that I don't know much about. I can however suggest a couple of alternatives if you are fond of Mt. Veeder AVA and Stags Leap AVA cabs.

Hess is located on Mt. Veeder and the do produce a couple of Mt Veeder cabs and blends, along with some very good Chardonnay, and other unusual things such as Alborino, a Spanish white grape which the also grow up on Mt/. Veeder.

Cliff Lede produces Cabs and Cab blends from fruit coming from the Stags Leap, Diamond Mt, and Howell Mt. AVAs. The wines from these AVA's have a very distinctive terroir and it is a real treat to taste them side by side. The first time my wife and I went there I had them pour a glass each of the 2005 vintage from all three AVAs and we tasted then side by side. For the next hour I took my wife through the nuances of each wines nose and palate. When we were done the tasting room manager comes over and says to me that he overheard what I was discussing with my wife and offered me a job in their tasting room saying that I had done a great job of explaining the differences in the wines.

I suggest these two because they are not as highly allocated and much readily available to you, provided you like mountain cabs in general.

Hi Chris,

Always love to hear from you. Cliff Lede was one of the first places I ever visited in Napa Valley. At the time it was S. Anderson. If there is any S. Anderson bubbly left in the wrold you should try it.

I am a huge fan of Stag's Leap. My favorite corner of the world would be Stag's Leap, Chimney Rock, Girard (now Ruud), and Lede. I am looking forward to enjoying these wines as they are "pricey", but I trust the reputation of Aaron Pott, and they should cellar well for the long haul.

It's Melva's fault really, she complained that the cellar has been recently too heavily invested in Pinot Noir and not enough Cabernet, what's a man to do?

The answer to your question is buy more Cab, of course. The S. Anderson sparkling wine is legendary, but I don't know of anyone who has any. My favorite California sparkling comes from J Wine Company in Sonoma.

Lede has a sister winery, Breggo, up in the Anderson Valley. Breggo produces Pinot Noir and a number of white wines, all of which I have tried and all of which I like.

Jay just tell Melva how lucky she is. I also often use ," your just a girl" and throw it into the context. Works like a charm and never fails. After all how can it, it's the truth!

I was in Napa over the weekend, winery-hopping. And consistent with my "always appropriately dressed for the occasion " m.o., I wanted to share a photo of said attire with all the winos ( er.. I mean wine afficionados ) in our forum faction..

The photo colors are a bit off....not purple, they're mid-dark blue. And yes, for casual wear I have a decent selection of colors although nothing wild - mostly earth tones and then blues or black . 90% of them are JP Tod and indeed comfortable as a shoe can get :-).

The wine T should have had a set up which uses a watch battery to fill the level of the drinking dude as the day goes on, but since they did not think of that, I'll just live with the image as it is, lol. A million and one comments on that T , everyone wants to know where I got it - sorry, I'm only revealing that to friends who I know go wine tasting frequently :-)

Btw, visited Jarvis, Flora Springs, Del Dotto , and Palmaz . Some really good wines, but with cabs averaging $ 150 / bottle they go far beyond the point where my unsophisticated taste buds can distinguish the difference between them and a $ 50 bottle..

There are some really good cabs out there for a lot less than $150 a bottle. You use have to keep visiting wineries and keep tasting.
