Yeah, so I e-mailed Bergvill, and he (I think the owner, Tore Bergvill) replied immediately. It's the right harness for CR-1 units with the M490 hi-fi option, and it's made for the Continental (VDO) retro head units. It will fit, ECS Tuning prob says it's not compatible bc of wiring, I'm nearly certain that's the case. My CR-1 deck still works and I will keep it for originality sake, but it's not functioning properly with balance/fade/volume controls. The CD changer gets power, but the laser is no longer reading CDs (Alpine, not surprised, and it is old).
I'm excited to put a retro BT unit in there with the amber lighting. Hopefully it brings the stereo back to life. I'm genuinely impressed with their site, so I'll do a little word-of-mouth advertising here.

All said and done, the new stereo will cost about $265. Not too bad, and it keeps it as original as possible. I may end up purchasing a new Porsche genuine amp, can't believe they're still available.
I love the Porsche Classic radio, but I just don't know if I can justify over $1k for a head unit.
IMHO, and I hate to say it, Alpine head units/equipment have been nothing other than complete garbage for me. My Alpine deck in my 968 coupe is junk, the Alpine deck that was in my Jeep was junk. That said, and since my coupe is not the original equipment, I've decided to go with a Pioneer BT/CD unit in that one like I did for my Jeep. I'm so impressed with Pioneer head units off the shelf for aftermarket applications. No amp in my Jeep, and that Pioneer just bumps. It's great.
