Porsche 968 broke down and was vandalized
#1

Over the Thanksgiving holiday the Porsche 968 broke down on the freeway and was later vandalized. They smashed out the passengers side window and damaged the door. They stole all of my owners manuals and all of the personal items within my glovebox (flashlight, Porsche tire gauge, etc). They ripped out my stereo and jacked up the dash. Amateurs! They also damaged the back right wheel of the car for what reason I do not know.

So, it was towed to Stuttgart Southwest here in Tempe, Arizona where it is being evaluated and inspected by the police and insurance. I have no idea what caused the initial break down considering I recently had a lot of service performed on the car. All I can say is that whom ever did this I hope Karma pays them back!

Back in the day when stealing head units was the rage, I had a nice Blaupunkt yanked out of my VW Golf/Rabbit. The easiest thing to steal in the world as it slides right out but the worst part about it was the fact that it happened in my own car port. As Flash points out, you have a feeling of being violated. Sad to hear about your situation, and yesm hopefully they will get theirs someday!

I had it worse!

Back in 2003 I had my car stolen from in front of my house and found at a park about 6 miles away stripped. But get this, they only took the interior. Seats, carpeting, shifter, door handles, radio etc. Nothing but metal inside. The police and I both assumed it was some interior shop. I looked for the bastards for 3 months. Hell, I'm still looking for them!

Oh man, that sucks. How long did you leave it on the freeway? This town isnt the kind of place to leave your Porsche on the freeway for very long. Hopefully Jack, and your ins can get it right. Drop me a line if you wanna save a few bucks. You can bring it by my house, do the work here. I got tools, etc. Just putting that out there. Only thing I dont do myself in my garage is major engine work, or maintenance pretty much. Jack or DJ, get paid for that. Sucks when this happens, but if you can get a nice ins check out of it, and save some cash gettin it fixed, makes things better for me, when Ive been there.

I didnt know your car was GP white. I think I saw you by the airport in my rover not too long ago. My 93' is GP white too.

The Freeway is not an isolated place where things go un-noticed for extended periods of time or no-one is driving past.

You have to ask yourself, what is the world coming to. Opportunism at its worst and a lack of care by everyone else who drove by and ignored it. People that believe they have more right to take what you have worked for should be strung up by their fingers - I am out of sympathy with the liberal do gooders. I have worked bloody hard (and lived in s***ty locations) to achieve what I have. We ignore this because we have lost faith in the system to actually do something about it - we need the system to work and deal with this crud for us. If someone thinks they are more entitled simply because they can - then the full force of the law is not enough.

My sympathies towards the outcome, but hopefully as you highlight - Khama might just provide balance in the world - but we normally do not get to see it.

As per previous posts, perhaps there is some upside to all of this, but the pain to get to that is always hard. As is trying to understand why pricks do this to others (perhaps having it done to them might even the score).

Those pictures made my stomach turn! When mine had the P-brake "melt-down" on the freeway, I waited paintiently beside it for over an hour and a half, until the flatbed guy finally arrived.

Extra sad that it happened on the Thanksgiving weekend... I guess the person involved has a distorted view of what to be "thankful" for!

No normally it isnt isolated, thats why I asked. It all depends what day it was, and the time really. At least here, where it happened. A sunday-weds, late at night it could very well sit isolated for quite a while. I dunno if there is an upside, but extra cash for troubles can make issues dealing with property easier to deal with for me sometimes. Just trying to shed some light on the situation.

"As is trying to understand why pricks do this to others (perhaps having it done to them might even the score)."

Maybe they do it because its been done to them, and their evening the score with everyone, even those who didnt do it. Just seems maybe their logic is the same as that statement. Not that revenge isnt sweet. Just that Ive often wondered, and asked myself those questions too. Any way you look at it, its a shame. If Id seen it sitting on the freeway, Id be tempted to watch over it for the guy, stranger or not...hes a 968 owner. If I see another Porsche on the road broke down, I always stop to see if they need anything. If I saw another 968 broken down, Id probably stop and see if they need AAA. Even if its not my car, I hate to see another one get hurt.

I had just gotten off work from a long day and was on my way home. It was around 7:30pm and it was already dark. I had to pick up my brother from the airport, so, it was a particularly bad time to have the car break down.

I had a friend pick me up and then drive me to a relatives house so I could borrow there car to pick up my brother from the airport. I then had to get a rental car and then drop the other car back off. Needless to say, by the time this was all done and said it was already midnight.

You have to understand that there where several major events going on in town, so, there where almost no rental cars (2 days for $250) available and no flat bed trucks until the next morning. It was quite a mess. When I finally did meet the flat bed truck early that next morning the damage was already done. It really makes me sick to go through this right now...

craig - lol - let's not tramp on the liberals - i'm a liberal, but i want to shoot somebody for things like breaking into cars - i'm all about one penalty for every crime, and think we let too many people get away with crap - i also agree that it is our responsibility to step in when we see something, and not just pass it by - the tide is turning on that, and in a number of places now there are good samaritan laws for which you can be charged if you knowingly ignore a crime

flwbyu - this exact thing happened to me about 30 years ago - i had to leave a car overnight after a mishap - when i came back, every window was broken, the interior was trashed, and the stereo system was completely gone - made me furious and sick at the same time

Very sorry to hear this has happened.

Had my first 944 broken into - was my own damn fault for leaving a number of "valuable" things in plain view, overnight. The only good thing was they were somewhat "professional" - if you can call them that - and did very minimal damage. Still furious and to this day I never leave anything visible in the car, even when it is parked in my driveway.

Again, sorry and I hope the a##holes who did this pay dearly in some way...

The car theft rate is alarmingly high these days and the police, in many areas, show little concern when it comes to theft recovery or capturing the culprit of vandalism.

At a minimum people need to slow down and make a phone a call to the police. Grabbing a plate number if possible. I understand the fear that grips many in situations like this. Dark night and a few thugs going at a car. It could be dangerous. so I wouldn't advise this to a woman. But most of these guys are cowards. Pulling over and shining your headlights on them is often enough to send them scurrying away.

F-ng punks ! Even if this would happen to your old, beat up ford it leaves you with a sick feeling that lasts a long long time, but to have a beautiful 968 broken in and vandalized as it was just compounds the violation.

Vengence !! If there is such a thing as "karma" I hope those b-stards get theirs !

Really sorry to see this.

Yeah, that sucks, sorry to see it happen. Hope the insurance company will be cooperative, not sure but could be several thousands $ in repairs.

Also interesting that they window was broken, but have been an opportunistic attack, rather than planned.

Does anybody know if a slim-jim works on the 968?

I despise a liar; I despise a thief. REALLY hurts to see this. As a business owner I have been the victim many times. I once arrived to work on a Monday to find 27 customer cars vandalized. Only one customer reported something missing - a pair of sunglasses.

My 968 has never been touched, but this possibility is the reason there are no manuals or anything in it.

Hope all goes well with the repair.

Listen to this story that happened THIS MORNING at my work place!

(I work in Sales at a truck body manufacturing plant)

The production line workers were arriving for work at about 6:30 this morning and as one of the guys was slowing down to turn into the yard, a "stranger" started flagging him down. He came to a stop and opened his window (good samaritan type action), at which time the "stranger" grabbed him and tried to pull him out of his car to make off with it! The worker then stepped on the gas and ended up dragging the "stranger" into the back yard. When he finally stopped, some of the other guys saw what was happening and came running over. As the "stanger" tried jumping the fence that surrounds the work yard, he was subdued by the guys and held till the police showed up and took him away. He probably will get a "slap on the wrist" and let go again. I'm not sure, but my guess is that this person is a drug addict looking for a quick way to make some cash for his next "high". Sad, sad world we live in.

Tomorrow you'll wake up and deal with your insurance - tomorrow the thief will wake up and still be a dickhead.

And say hello to Jack for me.
