I have removed, sanded, and resprayed the skirts on my car. I used a basecoat-clearcoat by PPG (Shopline). I have sanded the topcoat with 1200 grit paper. Does anyone have a particular recommendation for what polish I would use to bring the gloss back? I like Meguiar's for this kind of thing, but I am uncertain which number I should use. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I am not familiar with the brands of polish you have over in the US but I would first start by sanding with 2000/2500 sand paper otherwise it will be quite a job getting a good finish

Completely agree with jaap...



I'd wet sand with 2000 and then polish. Trying to polish out 1200 grit sanding marks will take a while and require a rotary with proper pads and skill, which maybe you have. I'm familiar with PPG/Shopline but not familiar enough with Meguire's products to make a specific recommendation. If you want to talk Menzerna, you'd be looking at their Power Gloss product for 1200 grit scratches. PM or e-mail and I'd be happy to try and help. As Jay mentioned, I'm a dealer for both Adam's and Menzerna so let me know what questions you may have.

You guys were right. I am not greatly experienced but I am not a novice. Sanding with 1200 would have been more than enough when I was using a wool pad and a rotary buffer. But using an orbital with foam pads, 1200 scratches were too much. I re-sanded with 1500 and it is much better. It is just the skirts and the light reflects downward and they really came out quite well. Of course the car is red so now I really have to paint the rest of the car. I will sand it with 2000 this time though. I did use Meguiar's Ultra Cut which they say is agressive, (able to remove 1200 scratches but it wasn't) but not to compared to things I have used on the past. Any way, I am happy with the way they turned out.
