Just for information purposes -the 2 wiring harnesses in the engine compartment are no longer available new ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. There are all gone. I wanted to buy both of them and replace mine. There were really expensive but I felt that the time had come. So now I need to find someone who can fabricate them. These wires are getting brittle and most of us will face this problem soon.
Flash - why are you drinking beer right now instead of working on this?

I believe he is referring to the actual wiring harnesses not the main power cables.

Yes - i had the other "power cables" fabricated and replaced in the fall rather than buy the Ice Shark ones. They were in rough shape. I am referring here to the 2 wiring harnesses in the engine area - one for the DME/injector/timing section and one for all the other stuff (lights, etc). It is the DME one now causing me grief. And I don't think that the 944 series one will work as that system was not OBD-1. Also, I doubt that any wiring older than mine will be any better shape than mine, especially if I factor in the cost of having it modified and then installed.

I had the connector to the hall sender replaced but it did not help. The engine still is missing. So now I am going to try to (1) disconnect the hall sender entirely and see what happens, (2) check the crank position sensor wire as it could also be broken and (3) try to determine if the variocam is actually being actuated. And to top all of this off, just in case I wanted to spend a bit of money to actually fix whatever is wrong, the front differential in my Cayenne ground itself into oblivion today and so $3500 will go to fixing that. I was also going to have the A/C in my cab converted over to R134a but that may now wait.
So let's add it up and see how the Glimmer Triplets are doing:
2006 Cayenne - out for two weeks at least waiting for new front differential.
1992 - 968 coupe - buggered up since head gasket replacement in fall and has not been able to be driven since
1992 - 968 cab - had arranged to have A/C converted and cab top electrical closure system repaired but this may now wait - but it is the only drivable Porsche that I have (good that it is a "winter" car).
So I am driving a 2001 Nissan Sentra - my Porsche repair car - for the next while.
I am having fun up here guys. And the only 968 around to share the fun with! (Except for Pete at RS Barn who will listen endlessly to my ranting and offer me gems of wisdom)
