Panamera Spottings
#1

Two of our friends independently spotted Panameras undergoing high altitude testing in the mountains of Colorado over the past few weeks. This is not unexpected, as we've witnessed the same thing with the 987, 997, and Cayenne (also the Audi Q7, and many others), over the years, long before any of them were released.

The really interesting part this time is that one of our members happened to have a camera with him. Go to www.amrporsche.com if you'd like to see the photos he took as he followed the Panameras. This is down toward the bottom of Loveland Pass, about an hour West of Denver. They are just completing the descent from the top of the pass (11,990 ft), and are just passing the entrance to Loveland Ski Area (great spot that tourists tend to drive right past).

Saw my first Panamera yesterday at the local Porsche dealer. Looks pretty much like it does in pictures. Yes, it's a lot of money for a car, especially a sedan. I was underwhelmed. There are a lot of other things I would do with $120K. I predict it will be something less than a rousing success for Porsche. It wasn't bad, but there was a Maserati Quattroporte in the dealer's pre-owned cars showroom, and to my taste, that car is far more appealing.

Apparently Stevie Wonder has given up music and is now working as a designer for several car companies producing high end models like the Panamera, the Veyron, the MBZ cls 55 , Nissan GTR, etc...

968ers,

I've yet to "pine" for a Cayenne; and I doubt that I'll ever opt for even a heavily depreciated used Panamera in the future.

However, just because these two models don't "tickle" me, it doesn't mean that Porsche is hurting in the absence of my purchase.

Here in la-la-land of sunny southern California, the Cayenne has sold tremendously well. Porsche's "wind brick" SUV is a "gotta have" me-too status symbol for every trophy wife and twenty-something girlfriend that has to put up with screwing her "grandpa" aged "boy friend."

Now that SUVs are passee, the new look-at-me girlie girl Porsche is the Panamera (especially the hideously expensive top-of-the-line Turbo version).

This week a heavily yoga-bodied smokin-hot bounce-a-quarter-on-my-ass bleached-out tits-on-a-stick hottie pulled up in a black on black Panamera Turbo complete with charter-plate sized PCCB brakes (and those bright yellow calipers contrasting against the dark black paint looked almost as good as the blonde bimbo posing next to them).

I didn't expect to like Porsche's new "station wagon" Panamera; and it may have been the youthful glow of the model quality pilot, but, I admit, I like the new Panamera!!!

Acres of leather and super comfy seats. The front end, in person, reminds me of Ferrari's new 599 GTB. The "stubby" tail seems reminiscent of the 928.

So there it is, Porsche has decided again to offer what sells here in SoCal. In the shadow of the yesterday's Cayenne, the Panamera is the new "chick" car.

True, the Porsche faithful may not want it. But then again we're just heavily opinionated and ultra-critical cheap-skate "hobbiests that rarely pony-up for an $80,000-$160,000 purchase at the local dealership. So maybe our opinions don't count as we don't fit the demographic of today's big ticket buyer for a new Porsche.

Yep, the 944 & 948 will hold and haul more stuff than the Boxster/Cayman replacement. And the new cars may be faster and have more electronics. But for this "hobbyist" the old Guards Red Porsche in my garage still "tickles" me just right.

So let the girls have their new "station wagon" Porsche, it's for them, not us. Just count yourself lucky that you're not the poor sap having to buy a new Panamera to keep your bed warm!!!

2 cents,
Porsche

great fun reading the descriptions of the LA demographics , gotta give it to porsche not just that but also for being right on point relative to these cars which in spite of many of our opinions, will probably be quite popular.. after all, money and class or good taste don't always go hand in hand
