I am planning on touching up some curb scrapes and paint fade on my wheels...I've purchased the Wurth paint and clear laquer. I'm hoping to spruce up the center caps. It seems from research that the original caps on our cars were the black and silver type and plastic??? If that's the case, then the caps have been replaced with the painted ones which are indeed nicer and metal, not plastic. At any rate, the current paint on the caps is basically non-existent, but the caps themselves are in fine condition.
I have a customer's wife who can no doubt paint these back into shape. My question is, does anyone know the correct colors and/or correct type of paint. Once painted, I can apply a coat of the Wurth clear to finish them off.

If the person painting mine wants to volunteer her services, I'll put up a post. Once she does mine and if all goes well, perhaps she can come up with a price for her efforts...then again, she may never want to do a set again!!
I'd love to see pics of others' homebrew efforts. I was thinking of tackling this myself, but my friend is next best thing to a professional and has all the necessary tools in a home studio.

Nenehubert,
I have seen those crest for sale on e-bay. Usually can buy just one and I assume you just glue them back on. I have also seen just one center cap for sale but there are many different styles so make sure the part numbers match up.
I bought a new set of 4 wheel centers on e-bay from a guy that goes by the name of Porschedad I think. They shipped directly from Germany. Worked out great.

I have this type of center cap which are readily available over here. However the coloured shield used to come unglued ( as in the lower pic ) and lost. so I have inserted a tiny black plastic nut and bolt through one of the holes to locate the shield to " catch " it should it come unglued. For the front wheels the nut part must be filed down flush with the back of the center -cap to produce a perfect fit in the wheel.
Cheers Shaun.
