Pads and Rotors
#1

What pad and rotor combination are the F-stock guru's running? And do you run the same combination for street applications?

I have the standard brake calipers and rotors on the car. From reading the F-stock rules it sounds like rotors and pads are free but not calipers?

I am sure I finished off the front pads and rotors from my track outing last weekend. Hallett is rough on brakes. Going to check in a bit.

Everyone in F uses full race pads that you wouldn't want to run on the street. I use Pagid Blacks or Hawk Ht-10's. Others use Pagid Orange, Hawk Blue, Performance Friction 97's, etc. All of these work great on the track, but are too dusty and noisy for street use, plus they work poorly at street tempertatures.

You have to use 968 calipers otherwise you get bumped out of F Stock into E Prepared. However, since the M030 calipers were optional on the car, you can replace the standard calipers with the M030 calipers. All of the fast 968's that I'm aware of are running the M030 front calipers.

Opinions vary on rotors. My view is that rotors are disposable, and that any extra money spent on a set of rotors is better spent on the next set of rotors. I use non-drilled, non-slotted Zimmerman rotors at $95 apiece. Others spend extra money on drilled, or slotted rotors. Some get their rotors frozen. Others even use the Porsche factory cast-hole M030 rotors at $300 apiece I've tried all of the above, and none worked any better or lasted any longer than the cheap, simple Zimmermans, so that's what I use.

That is what I figured but thought I would ask. I run Hawk Blues on the 510 and they work great but wouldn't use them on the street.

What would you recommend for street pads? Dust doens't bother me too much but don't want a noisy set up.

When upgrading to MO30 calipers do you have to also convert to the MO30 struts or can you add aftermarket threaded collars? I would assume it is difficult to find the MO30 strut assemblies??

Thanks!!

I like Metal Master pads for street use.

You can upgrade to the M030 calipers without upgrading the struts. Shocks and struts are free in the PCA stock classes, so you can do anything you want there. The fast 968 racers I know are running Ledas or Motons.

I only do Auto-X, and street drive my pad choice is the Carbotech Panthers, a

little dust but easy to take car of. Have also used the Metal masters IMO not as good as the Carbotech Bobcat, which is a great street pad, no dust and excellent cold stopping power. just my .02 worth

I've always used Pagids. I've always got great performance and never had an issue with them. I run Pagid Orange in Big Red calipers (not F stock).

I thought the Pagid Blue were a good street/track compromise.

Has anybody tried the Ultimate pads by Pagid/Axxis yet? I am installing these soon with Zimmerman X drilled rotors on a street/DE only car and will report my results after cooking them properly on the track

I ran the ultimate pads on my 924S last year. They were ok, but were just not agressive enough at times. I put a set of KFP Golds on the car yesterday but won't get to test them till the end of the month at Barber.
