Our "new" fireplace"
#1

Have been busy with a major ovehaul on the "new to us" house.

This is the end result of remodeling the original "red brick" fireplace...

Used a Hilti gun to shoot 1/2 plywood on the brick surface and widen the "face" area to accomodate exactly 7 tiles for width.

Added marble tiles to the front, sides and hearth & travertine mini tiles inside the mantel area.

Gas insert instead of the original wood burning (had a professional install the gas insert!).

Pretty proud of the end result but don't think I will do it another time! It was WAY more work than I originally anticipated...

The marble is a nice contrast with the engineered hardwood floor, which I also installed (after spending days making the subfloor level!).

I forgot to take a "before" picture.

Very nice. A commissioned modern art rendition of a 968 above it would enhance everything.. Surely there must be some local artists who can produce something of that kind, for a reasonable price..? ok, perhaps not reasonable, lol..but it was just a thought :-)

My wife thinks that I have "gone a bit over the top" since the 968 entered our lives...

Placing a 968 art rendition on the "open" space above the fireplace would NOT go over well!

Back in the late 80s / early 90s I worked for the parent company that managed all the Chuck E Cheese pizza " restaurants" chain ( a stretch calling it a restaurant, but bear with me.. ), and we comissioned Leroy Neiman to create a giant painting of Chuck E Cheese, which we prominently displayed in the lobby of the corporate offices. We paid him $ 25 k for the painting, and then had tons of posters / serigraphs produced which were distributed to various stores for sale .. I think those were about $ 10 for the posters and $ 50 for the serigraphs. Now, if only I would have had the foresight to have him paint a 968 when it came out, and then make prints / lithographs, or serigraphs of that one.. all of us here would now have one hanging in the garage ( or in the house, if the spouse permits.. )

So grasshopper, do you want me to do a test case and commission an artist I have extensively used? Some background first. We have been on a building spree for the last eight years. I stumbled upon original art from local artists. I quickly realized artists were not business oriented. Over the last 4 years I have purchased over 130 paintings. These i donated and now hang in these new buildings. We have had others donated. Before you say why so many? Tons of wall space. One woman was commissioned to do buildings we tore down so as to create an historical perspective. Art of course is subjective. One likes something while others retch at the sight of it! I think I will give her a call and see if she has any interest in at least doing my car. Any interest here? Don't ask the price and I have neither an interest in drumming up biz for her or taking a cut!

The 968 in said photo would need to be either Alpine White or Metallic Beige (both only offered until 1991) to match the tiles, right? So basically you're going to need a respray, then commission someone to do the painting of your car. It could be an expensive proposition.

now why didn't someone think of producing a special effects collage with six or eight image variations , which we can all download and have posters made from it.. any volunteers ?! ( I no longer have the fancy photo software to do this, and honestly do not remember which one I used.. it was a while back )

Geez will you two grow up! Ok so my idea has already been done by you two artistic visionaries. Great minds think alike. I still put a call into the woman I know so I will just have to figure on the medium. Suppose it doesn't measure up to the two of yours? Saints forbid. Then what? Youse guys are a tough group to follow! You know cutting edge and all. Allan I put what you made for me in my office and enjoy it every day!

OK, I'll dish the secret Rap, a quick snapshot of the car and some free software (Paint .NET) and voila a 968 masterpiece! (this time in ink sketch!)

Bob, I' m easy ( that's what the girls at the club said.. parr rump pum .. ) so just show us a sample of her style, and who knows, you may have a willing audience to chip in for a artistic tribute to the car.. regardless of medium ..as long as it's not in crayons. :-)
