One fast 951
#1

Not sure how old this story is, I just came across it while searching 968 stuff. Its not fully a 968 but it has the heart of one. Its an amazing car with a great story behind it. towards the end of the story you will find yourslef wanting to know a bit more about the amazing owner of the car.

I remember reading about this car when it was first raffled off. I almost bought several tickets.

120 whp per cyclinder would be 480 total. IMA Motorsports has just finished a 951 with 600+ HP. I saw the dyno readout. It does use a 968 engine and gearbox as the base. He has completely rebuilt the engine with a turbo using custom headers, exhaust and cams. It also has custom pistons and connecting rods, Tiilton clutch assembly and flywheel alsong with Motec engine managment system. It even has a 968 rear hatch. I won't tell the cost but it can "chirp" the tires in 6th gear. I think it might beat the German car. He also has built a 951 race car with 500+ HP. Check out the web site IMAMOTORSPORT.NET.

I wonder where he found a 4 cylinder 'iron block' 3.0 968 motor.......

xrad, I guess you are inferring that he could not use 1 968 engine and replace the custom pistons in an aluminum engine, well he used iron sleeves in the ALUMINUM 968 engine. IMA is one of the most talented engine builders around. He has also created 900+ HP with a 3.6L 6 cyclinder engine for 2 race cars. See the April 207 issue of Excellence.
