Replacing Stock tires

I currently have Dunlop Direzza Sport tires on my one car. Any suggestions for a similar tire with no noise and reasonably affordable?

i am blown away by the conti DWs i put on the X5.  i have always hated conti, but these are amazingly smooth, quiet, and grippy.  the sidewalls are a bit soft, so you get a bit more initial roll, but at the same time they sure make the ride smoother

I've been running Bridgestone SO4 Pole Positions on my 968. I get decent mileage, about 35,000 per set and they are quiet. They handle decent in the rain as long as it doesn't get cold. The Audi A5 has Conti DWs and have no complaints.

Running Mich Pilot Sports PS2's and very happy with them. Quieter and gripper than the Bridgestone SO3's I had on it earlier.  Don't drive in the rain or snow.

What's " reasonably affordable " ? After having tried at least five or six of the top rated tires on these cars I have not found a single one that comes even as a close second choice to the Michelin PS 2 ( in terms of a perfect balance in all the categories of the criteria RAP listed ). You'll find tires which have a slightly better grip in dry conditions, OR a slightly better grip in wet conditions , OR at a cheaper price , OR longer tread wear , OR maybe ones which could be just a half db quieter ( although I would doubt anyone makes a quitter tire ) , but in addition to being the gold standard , they are also the only tire maker with a very unique and patented interior wall reinforcement construction which enhances both the performance and the safety aspect of the tire. But not sure if they can be categorized as reasonably affordable.


Btw, I had the Dunlop Direzza Sport " Star " tires and returned them less than a week after I bought them.

Best grip ( dry conditions ) I have ever experienced , but unfortunately intolerably LOUD ! I think even in a racing environment use only, they are still too friggin' noisy

Be sure to include the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 in your comparison. Excellent reviews on both dry and wet performance and, at least over here, cheaper than most other premium brands too. They pretty much beat everything over here when I bought them about 3 years ago. But only because the Michelin Pilot SS isn't available over here in a 255/40 R17. But then again, they are way more expensive too.

Can't find the SS in 17s sizes here either . As for Goodyear F1s , definitely a consideration , but IIRC, they are the most expensive tire available ( size to size comparison of course ) in the US - last time I checked, which was about five years ago, they were at least 25 % pricier than the PS2 . Go figure, cheaper on another continent than the one where they are manufactured . The " middle man " syndrome at play ? ( for example, Nikon cameras are more expensive in Japan than they are in the U.S. so perhaps tne same principle applies to tires and other goods ..)

Perhaps it is because my Goodyears are 'Made in Germany'. Maybe they make German tires over in the US so they can ship them over to Europe. Pretty crazy if you ask me, but who am I to question modern economic realities?

Ugh, I knew they have several mfg locations around the world, but I was under the impression their top of the line tire - tne Eagle F1 - is still produced here . So much for what has always been an iconic U.S. brand product ( especially for an Ohio-an like me..) Although I suppose if it was to be made in any other place, Germany does offer that peace of mind quality factor to it.
