Oh that hurt -
#1

Cleaned the car up top to bottom today. When we were on one of our twisty mountain runs last week I ran over a very large rock - about the size of your fist from what I saw before I went bang. When it happened i thought maybe I had blown a tire or worse. Pulled over and found no oil on the ground and the tire holding it's pressure. Well I think I know what the rock hit.

It the brace still good? Can it be straightened?

Hey, I have that same brace on the top of my strut towers.

That is a weird placement.

Is that behind the oil pan?

I would think if you were going to do any racing or autocrossing to go ahead and get a new one.

But if you are DailyD or garage queening the car not to bother.

That bar is not OEM and therefore doesn't pose a threat to the safety or operation of the car.

But that's just my 2 cents

Its a D1R lower brace. Should have specified that. Mounted to castor blocks.

Considering that bars only stresses are of the compression/expansion nature I would just bang it straight and retorque it as per Flashs' install instructions. Providing it isn't cracked after straightening it as Al tends to do. Your bend doens't look very severe though.

Took me a minute to see what you were talking about... OUCH! Based on the pics, the oil pan and the brace are at about the same height off the road, so it's great that you didn't take that rock on the saucepan. [Image: blink.gif]

No kidding right? Maybe you should add "underbody protection" to the list of attributes for the brace. I'll call you today.
