I have decided not to try to weld mine. It is cracked around the O2 sensor hole and really is making a lot of noise. Plus, the fumes in the car are rather unreal. Even if it can be "fixed" it is still old and probably at least partially/mostly plugged. Does anyone have or know of one for sale?

For an amount of 1100 dollars I always should try to weld and see how it works out. You will buy time to search for the definatly solution.

The main reasons, I guess, for not really wanting to weld it are 1) not sure why it broke so not sure how long it might last and 2) it is 16 years old and probably is at least partially plugged up. If I can get a new one I will try. BTW - the part that I noted in an earlier post is not able to be shipped to Canada (??).

Kim,
If you need a part shipped I'm sure we can work something out.

I got it welded yesterday. Gave up trying to get one here and having der Fuhrer send me one was a bit steep ($2000). Seems to be OK. There were cracks in the pipe to the cat and around the muffler itself. Exhaust had fallen off a front hanger, allowing it to twist, which was probably why it broke. Time will tell. Buys a bit of time anyway. Was almost asphyxiated by the fumes in the car just after I started it up.
Also put the CD-2 original radio back in the cab and took out the Alpine flip up video display thing and CD changer that was in there. Looks and sounds better this way. Will put the Alpine one in the coupe and have it professionally installed so that I can actually change the time and turn off the subwoofer function. That is the plan in two weeks.
Over and out from Bugtussel.
