Question for you guys with a bit of knowledge regarding the OEM rack...I was lucky enough to score one on ebay, NOS, never used a couple weeks ago. It is missing one part though...the keys to the lock cylinders. Lucky for me, the locks are currently all unlocked so it is usable but not as secure as I'd like it (I plan on using it as I bike). So my question is, are the keys universal? It seems I can order the cylinder with keys (part 928 801 011 02) for around $40. I'm hoping i could then just use the keys from that set on the existing cylinders I have. Any input would be welcome.

Thanks,

i would go to a locksmith and just have them re-key the locks - probably about the same cost, but less work for you

I'll try that if I can't get a clear answer on the potential universality of the keys. I'd rather just spend $40 and have keys for the existing cylinders if possible versus trying to find a good locksmith around here.

they would make keys for the existing cylinders - that is exactly what i am talking about - they can "read" the pins and make new keys to fit those locks

no worries - just take the whole rack if you have to, but they should be able to handle it very easily

Job done! Luckily all 4 cylinders were keyed the same so the cost to impression one lock was only $17.50. Not bad. Now to clean the car and install them this weekend.
