Not able to change my avatar photo
#1

After posting this question in another location, I see that I put it in a folder where replies aren't allowed, so here it is again:

I'm trying to change my avatar photo, but when I select "Change your Photo" under General Account Settings, and try to upload the one I want, I get an error that says "Failed to set a new photo." The photo I want to upload is in jpeg format, 320 KB, dimensions 3648 x 2738. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

it's too big. that's the problem

80k AND 160 wide by 120 tall are the maximum limits. you must resize it to fit within those specs

Wow, it's WAY too big. I'll try to shrink it...

In some forums higher level member$ are allowed larger avatars. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

we don't want the avatars or signatures to make every post huge. that's why pics and such are not allowed in the signatures. we considered not having avatars and signatures at all, so as to keep the posts taking up the minimum amount of space. that way we could fit more posts on a page, and make the reading much easier. but, we opted to keep them, so as to give some frame of reference for the users.
