No football / soccer ?
#21

..compounded by the officiating which has been about as bad as can be , having already influenced the outcome of two or three key matches and the resulting standings..

U.S. was ROBBED !!

and WTF is FIFA thinking ?! A ref from MALI in the world cup ?! Oh yeah, good choice ; the great soccer heritage country of Mali

people fail to see that Altidore was holding the arm of a slovenian defender and also committed a foul.

Add to that an almost upset of the USA by "tiny" Slovenia!
You "guys" are hanging by a thread. Qualifying can still be done, but it will be tough! I am cheering for "my neighbour" to do well.
The only team that has really shone so far has been Argentina, in spite of Maradodna as coach!
Let's see what Holland does tomorrow and Brazil on Sunday.

Although I don't want to see Brasil win it, how can one argue with their greatest fans ?! And it's not as if this is the exception, there's millions more just like her.

not to mention that in addition to soccer, Brasil's other contributions to the world have been great as well : rainforests, cocoa,
...wax ( and I'm not talking about the carnauba in you car polish )

You know those "vuvuzelas" everyone in the stadiums is blowing into causing numerous complaints from players, broadcasters, tv audiences, etc ? Well, it was just revealed where those trumpets come from..

WTF is happening with this tournament ?!

Not that Germany did not deserve the win, they most certainly did - they were by far the better team, in fact I think this may be the best German team EVER ( sorry Franz and Gerd ) However, this game's outrageous call which is already being categorized by coaches, players and even FIFA officials as possibly the worst of all time in a world cup, is the epitome of a series of inexplicable officiating errors only compounded by archaic FIFA rules. Just this weekend we've seen clearly offside goals which were allowed, the U.S being robbed ( once agian ) of legitimate goals, countless yellow cards given for no reason at all, and this goes on..

To say this is the most bizarre World Cup I have seen , and I've seen all of them starting in 1962, would be an understatement.

And why not a half-time as well as a post-game video review of key controversial goals / calls with an ensuing reversal if so warranted ? FIFA has received not hundreds of thousands, but millions of appeals over the course of the last eight years , from just about every continent to implement this rule.. but they simply ignore anything other than their own officials opinions..
As soon as the tournament is over, FIFA must be disbanded with the entire organization to be rebuilt from scratch ; new ( and relevant ) rules , and new leaders. The 2010 World Cup has been rendered pretty much meaningless to me..

Ok, off the soapbox now :-)

You feel this years team is better then West Germany's 1990 Squad?

Germany 1990 did not play the "beautiful" game the way it is supposed to be played. This German team seems to have the German efficiency and some good playmaking as well. Unfortunately they will not succeed against Agentina.

It is going to be an "all South-American" Semi-Finals: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay!
Brazil plays in a couple of hours against Chile. I hope I can come back to this thread with a smile on my face!

Hup, Hup, HOLLAND! Too bad your going to be sent home by Brazil once again!

Lets not forget, the 1990 German team beat Argentina in the final & they also took Argentina down in the last World Cup.

I feel that this years teams are by far one of the worst i've seen play in a long time. Especially the european squads. However, Argentina will have a tuff time with Germany (as always), and Paraguay will have an even harder time getting past Portugal. Brazil is in luck they wont be playing France..a team they have lost to many times.

Tough to compare, the 90s german defense was arguably better than their current back line, but somehow I'd still give this team an edge.. quicker, crispier bulid up, better strategy..

I agree that european teams are not playing all that well this tournament ( man, is that an understatement.. ), so we'll see how the latins do .. being "one of those from latin Europe " I'm compelled to root for Spain Not Portugal though ..simply because I don't particularly like C. Ronaldo Nani is another story..but he's not on.

BTW, FIFA just released an official photo in defense of their refs proving that england did not score .. the refs had it right after all :

World Cup 2014 in Brazil I think we will see video replay.
The English "non goal" was payback for the "non goal" that gave them the title in 1966.

i was watching a news cast yesterday. " would have been 2-2, instead it ended 4-1"...really...so if the goal was counted it would have been a draw that went to a penalty shoot out? Sure, the goal should have been counted, but England would have still lost 4-2.
