nitrogen and psi
#41

Lol, yes I meant compressor of course ..the pump ( I have one or two of those in the garage also just to keep the soccer balls nice and round at all times ) would have taken slightly longer to inflate tires :-) :-)

Somehow I just didn't see you pumping your tires. Inflatable mattress yes, tires no! Lol

Phew, given various choices of inflatable things, at least you were kind enough to pick mattress ..either that or you're slipping at your advancing age and missed the opportunity for a real zinger , lol.

I've got to ask: are the tires of the 6-speed also filled with plain air? All tires should loose pressure over time because the air molecules go straight trough the fabric an rubber of the tire itself...

Air is 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, I am not sure if it'd help to fill them with krypton or a bulky hydrocarbon (heh) or something.

Air, if reasonably dry, should behave like an ideal gas and no benefit should be seen from running N2 in the tires.

"O2 "permeates" approximately 3-4 times faster than does N2 through a typical rubber, as is used in tires, primarily because O2 has a slightly smaller effective molecular size than does N2."

I extracted it from the link underneath for those interested. It basically means that the 21% of the gas in a tire filled with plain air will leave the tire fairly quick. 100% nitrogen will last longer.

the tanks you see out there are not 100% nitrogen either. they are generally about 95% at best (unless the tanks are brand new).
