Nissan GT-R loses control at full throttle
#1

Went to a GT-R Fun Run and BBQ in Hagerstown MD last Saturday covering 60 miles of twist, turns and tunnels. Loads of fun! All were well behaved with the exception of this guy who really pushed his car too hard on this public road. This happen very early in the run. Thankfully the driver was OK.

On a side note- it is insane to watch those cars go from 45 - 130. When the turbos spool up, it is shockingly fast. Many GT-Rs there were pushing 650HP

GTR's are definitely a technological tour-de-force. There was one in my beginner's class at Driveway Austin. Amazingly capable and fast cars. If only they came in a body that was even halfway attractive. I wouldn't call them ugly (as many have), just sort of plain Jane. Given that they offer supercar performance as a fraction of the price, I'm sure it's their homely looks that have kept their sales so low.

But looking like a pure sports car has never been the focus of any skyline. I believe they call them "executive cars" in Japan.

Passed on the yellow line - not that smart. Even if he didn't wreck, I wonder how he planned on navigating the traffic circle.

Don't you know traffic circles are optional at 200 K? Or maybe he was setting up for the Finnish Flick ;-)

yup - a dip in the road like that will really screw you up. the uneven surface doesn't help either.

Very nearly a Darwin moment. Recipe for carnage if someone had been coming the other way.

Recipe for disaster indeed - looks like he didn't know there was a traffic circle coming up right after that rise, didn't have any idea how out of shape he'd get going over it and no way could he see if there was any oncoming traffic in that lane. Just... wow.

screw the traffic circle. that was not the real problem. he got airborne before that, and lost control and then went off over the circle. this is the kind of thing that happens all the time. heck, i did it when i was much younger. did 3 flips, bounced off a van, and turned a daytona charger into a giant ash tray.

he was doing over 100 there. he had no business doing that on that road. he should have his car impounded, and license revoked.

The video depicts very poor judgement on the driver's behalf. He commenced the overtaking manoeuvre with clearly not enough vision ahead due to the crest. Looks like an inexperienced driver in a high performance car - recipe for disaster. I presume in the US, a new driver can drive a car of any power. In Australia, you can't drive high power cars until you have 5 years driving experience. It is not a great system , as the rules result in some very odd results (ie you can't drive ANY turbo charged cars). Nevertheless, this guy was either inexperienced or incompetent.

Correct. He had a good running start before over taking the truck and the GT-R with the mounted cam. As you could see, the GT-R w cam was going at a good clip himself. Now note how fast he was over taken. YIKES. After he hit the dip, he had no control for the next 1/4 mile. Had there been an oncoming car or even a telephone pole he'd be finished.

What Flash admitted to is true with most of us. That we were once reckless and immature.

I sure hope he's learned his lesson.

i was penalized for it too, as i should have been. lost the car. lost the license. heavy fines. 30 days. restitution. very messy. that doesn't even get into the plastic surgery or any of the other medical bills and lifelong issues that resulted from the crash.
