A Porsche press release about the upcoming Boxster beginning production at the Volkswagen Osnabrück revealed this interesting fact, which I had never heard before:
"This is not the first time that vehicles have been produced for Porsche in the Lower Saxony factory – for example, car bodies were made here for the 356 hardtop coupé in the 1960s and for the Porsche 968 in the nineties."I had assumed when they moved the 924/944/968 platform from Neckarsulm to the Stuttgart factory to commence with the building of the 968, that meant everything...but looks like that wasn't the case then, and won't be the case now for the new Boxster!Full release here:

Me thinks it's only a matter of time before Boxsters are built at a VW plant in the good ol' US of A!

I also saw that earlier today and was surprised, since I always had understood that all (and complete) 968's were built in Stuttgart!
It seems the assembly would have been done there. That will NOT be the case for the new Boxster.

The article said that the Boxster will go through a partial assembly at Osnabrück, then transported to Stuttgart to run on a shared assembly line with the 911. Interesting that they didn't just make all of the production at Osnabrück.
